Hello Lakeshore Families,

Hoping everyone has had a wonderful weekend in the sun and rising temperatures. We welcomed our Grade 9 students back from Ottawa on Saturday, and wish our Band students the best on their trip to Edmonton this week. Here is your current weekly update:

Picture Day – Thursday, April 18

Spring Photos will take place on Thursday.

Apparel Store – Last Chance

Our spring apparel store will close on Tuesday. This will be the last opportunity before the new school year. Order here: https://stores.inksoft.com/lakeshore_school/shop/home

School Council Meeting – Wednesday

All Lakeshore families are invited to attend our School Council / Fundraising Association meeting on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at the school.

Lakeshore School Awarded LEED Silver Status

Lakeshore School was awarded Silver LEED designation in a presentation at the CBE Education Centre last Tuesday. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design designations are presented by the Canada Green Building Council with the main focus on ensuring healthier learning spaces for students and staff. Board Chair, Laura Hack, presented awards to Lakeshore and Mahogany Schools which join 38 other Calgary Board of Education Schools with similar designations.

Written Responses to School Planning Survey

In last week’s update, quantitative data from our School Planning Survey was shared (available HERE if you missed it). There were some written responses, but due to the low number of comments, to protect anonymity, results will not be posted here or on the school website. All responses have been reviewed and considered in decision-making with the understanding that the qualitative results are not representative of the entire school community

Hot Lunch Options

Healthy Hunger options for the week of April 22 include KFC, Papa John’s, Opa and A+W. Order at https://healthyhunger.ca. Pizza-on-Demand Wednesdays continue.

Bears Athletics

Our annual student vs. teacher volleyball games will take place this week with the Senior Boys on Monday and the Senior Girls on Tuesday. Games will take place at the second half of lunch and students in grades 7-9 are invited to watch the action.

Follow athletics news via Instagram at @lakeshoreathletics. Badminton teams have been finalized and practices continue. Touch football and Track and Field information will be coming soon.

Indigenous Community Connections

If your family are planning an Alberta vacation this spring or summer, consider a visit to Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park. Writing-on-Stone / Áísínai'pi is found in the centre of Nitawahsin - known as original land of the Blackfoot (Niitsítapi) people. In addition to incredible rock art, there is archaeological evidence of tipi rings, campsites and bison jumps dating back thousands of years.

Have a wonderful week!

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
