Hello Lakeshore Families,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. Thank you to many of the parents who came to our Screen Time presentation last Wednesday, and thanks to our School Council for their support. We continue to move through a busy April at Lakeshore. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:

No Classes Friday
Friday is a CBE system-wide professional day and there are no classes for students.

Spring Picture Day – Tuesday
Tune up the smiles and choose the favourite outfits. Students will have spring photos taken on Tuesday.

Thanks, and we’re really looking forward to sharing this production with you!

Staffing Update
We are pleased to officially welcome Kari Zurbriggen to our front office staff. Kari has been supporting our office in a temporary capacity for a while and is a familiar face to our students and families. We will also be welcoming Amina Haroon to our office team starting on May 4. Amina has office experience having served in this role at Dr. Freda Miller School.

Wheel to School
With spring (hopefully) making its long-awaited appearance, it’s a great time to wheel to school. We encourage our students to bike, scoot, or skate to school. There is lots of room for bikes and scooter lockup and skateboards and rollerblades can be kept in lockers. Please remember helmets and locks!

Bears Athletics
Football
Tryouts will start up again this week. The second tryout for Seniors, after being cancelled last week due to the snow, will be Monday after school. The Junior football tryouts will be on Tuesday and Wednesday after school.

Readiness for Track and Field Classes
All of our PE classes are cycling through Track and Field units and students are reminded to be prepared. We need students to have proper footwear and students managing medical needs should be prepared for more intensive activity and plan accordingly.

Yearbook Orders
The window to order your 2025-2026 yearbook will soon close. Secure your yearbook by visiting the Lakeshore Yearbook Site. If you would like confirmation on whether or not you have already ordered a book, please check in with Ms. Hopkins at mnhopkins@cbe.ab.ca.

Planning for 2026-2027
We are in the planning stages in preparation for next school year. Here are a couple items that parents should be aware of:
Complementary Course Selection
Students set to enter grades 7-9 have selected their complementary courses for next year and this was done with them at school. If you are interested in which classes your child selected, you can access this via the MyCBE portal – on computer only, this will not work on the App. The four student comp classes are assigned via a computerized program based on these selections and we endeavor to ensure students have at least 3 of their 5 selections, although most will get 4 of 5. Once the program has created the schedules, we do not entertain complementary course change requests.

“Friends” and Class Composition
Our teachers work collaboratively to create next year class lists and this process begins in mid-May. It is our hope that all students will be placed in classes with friendly faces, but the priority is always in identifying positive working relationships. Students often have strong working connections with students who they are not friends with outside of school. In the weeks ahead, students will have the opportunity to identify preferred peers and the teachers will take these requests into consideration.

Parent Requests
While we consider our parents as valuable partners, we do not take requests regarding preferred peers or teachers. We make all decisions with intentionality and ask that our parents trust our processes as we manage the many dynamic variables that come into play when constructing strong classrooms environments for each student.

Hot Lunch Options
Options for the week of April 27 include Subway, Edo, KFC, and IHOP. Place your orders HERE. Pizza Wednesdays continue for $5 cash or tap.

That’s all the news for now. Enjoy the warm weather while it’s here and have a super start to your week!

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
