Hello Lakeshore Families,
It’s hard to believe, but the calendar is turning to May this week, which means there are only two more months of school. Here are your updates for the week ahead:
Community Cleanup a Success!
Last Friday, all of our students and staff went into the community to clean up the streets, pathways and pond areas around the school. We filled over 50 bags of recycle and waste and our part of Auburn Bay looking clean and ready for spring.

Class Placements for 2023-2024
Our teachers in grades 6-8 are starting to work with students to consider class placements for next year. We value friendships and will try, as best as possible, to ensure that each child is moving forward to a new homeroom grouping with a friend. Teachers are coaching students on what a supportive school friend might look like. We utilize our knowledge of the students, along with their feedback, to make choices. We ask that parents to trust our processes with the understanding that class lists will not be unveiled until late summer.
Bears Athletics
Our Touch Football coaches were blown away by the interest in our senior and junior football teams. There were 100 hopefuls between the two teams and action over the four days of tryouts. Teams have now been posted. Congratulations to all athletes. Team practices for both teams will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 3:00 – 4:30 PM. Auditions for the Track and Field team continue during daily PE classes.
Hot Lunch Options
Options from https://healthyhunger.ca for the week of May 6 include: A+W, Boardwalk, Spolumbos and Subway. Pizza-on-Demand is available on Wednesdays at $5 / slice.
Indigenous Community Connections
May 5th is Red Dress Day. Red Dress Day honours the memories of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls across Canada. Métis artist Jaime Black helped inspire the red dress movement, where red dresses are hung from windows and trees to represent the pain and loss felt by loved ones and survivors. Originally starting as the REDdress art installation, Red Dress Day became a grassroots movement across North America. The project was made up of 600 community-donated red dresses, which were later placed in public spaces throughout Winnipeg and across Canada. The artist chose the colour red after speaking with an Indigenous friend who told her that is the only colour spirits can see. Red dresses are used to call the spirits of missing and murdered women and girls back to their loved ones. The goal was to speak to the gendered and racialized nature of violent crimes against Indigenous women and to evoke a presence by marking absence.
Thank you for sending amazing humans to Lakeshore each day, and have a wonderful week.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
