Hello Lakeshore Families,

Welcome back to school! Our school has never looked better, and we are ready to greet our students on Monday morning.

For those of you who are new to Lakeshore, you can anticipate a weekly update coming your way each Sunday. This will always be posted to our website with a school messenger notice link sent directly to your email. Here is the news you need for week one:

Day One Startup
As relayed in your teacher introductory emails, all classes have a dedicated meeting sport where teachers will be starting at 7:55 AM tomorrow. The meeting spots are HERE. Grade 9 students will come inside via the main front doors.

Attendance
If your child is going to be absent or late, please feel free to notify the office via email at lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca. If you need to pick up your child early, you can also email the office and your child’s teachers to ensure they’re ready for you.

School Supplies
Students in Grades 7-9 are encouraged to bring their supplies to school on the first day. A list of required supplies is HERE (scroll down to the supplies section). Supplies for Grade 6 students are provided and all that is required of Grade 6s are backpack, snack / lunch, athletic shoes for PE, and a pencil case.

Drop-Off, Pick-Up, and Traffic Etiquette
With 985+ students attending Lakeshore you can imagine that drop-off and pick-up times can be very busy. First, please obey all traffic laws and bylaws. Second, please respect our neighbours and each other. The area right in front of the school is designated for quick drop only so there will be no waiting or parking at all. The area to the east of the staff parking lot entry is designated for busses, so there is also no waiting or parking there. If the weather is nice, encourage your children to walk or wheel to school and if the weather is poor or you must drive, please give yourself lots of time. Thank you for your support.

Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy
Students are expected to keep their cell phones in their locker at all times of the school day. You can check out documentation on this policy HERE, which includes school measures for violation.

Administrative Regulations
I would like to highlight two CBE Administrative Regulations of note: AR 6031 - Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning and Work Environments and AR 6006 – Progressive Student Discipline. Please feel free to review at your convenience.

Lakeshore Apparel
Our online apparel store is now open at https://stores.inksoft.com/lakeshore_school/shop/home. The store will close on September 14 so we encourage you do place your orders ASAP.

Bears Athletics
Soccer
Soccer try-outs will begin right away with Girls on Tuesday, Sept. 1 & Thursday, Sept. 3 @ 2:50 - 4:00 and Boys on Tuesday, Sept. 1 & Thursday, Sept. 3 @ 2:50 - 4:00

Soccer season runs until Nov. 6. Interested athletes must attend both try-outs OR reach out to the coaches if they have to miss one. Please contact Karlynn Peltier (girls team) at krpeltier@cbe.ab.ca or Erin Richards (boys team) at edrichards@cbe.ab.ca. First cuts will be made after the first two try-outs.

Cross-Country
Cross-country is one of two no-cut teams, so all students are encouraged to join. All cross-country meets will be held at North Glenmore Park beginning at 5:00. A bus will be available to take athletes to the final meet on Sept. 21. We realize that many athletes are busy with other sports, so practices are optional and team members can train on their own time if preferred. Team members will run at least 1 km, with the distance increasing for the older grades up to almost 2 kms. The most important meet to be at is the final meet on Sept. 21, as this meet determines what schools will win banners. No team fees will be collected, and this is an excellent opportunity for students to be a part of a Lakeshore team.

·      Cross-country meets - North Glenmore Park @ 5:00: Sept. 10, Sept. 15, Sept. 21 (final), Sept. 29 (alternate date for final if needed)

·      Cross-country practices - Lakeshore school @ 2:45 - 3:45: Sept. 2, 3, 8, 9, 14 & 16

Try Out Forms
Prospective athletes for all sports must complete and return the Annual Authorization for Athletic Try-Out form (linked here and sent out by Ashley Clark on Friday). Basketball try-outs will begin the week of September 8. Check next week's parent update and the Lakeshore Athletics Instagram account (@lakeshoreathletics) for more updates.

Interested in Coaching?
If you are a parent or community member looking to support our Athletics program as a coach, please connect with Ms. Clark via email at agclark@cbe.ab.ca.

Hot Lunch Options
Offerings for the entire first semester are now posted. You can review all options online HERE. Selections for the week of September 8 include Subway, Opa, Edo, and Via Cibo. Pizza-on-Demand Wednesdays will continue for $5 (cash or tap) with no pre-order required – while supplies last.

Lakeshore School Council
Lakeshore is thankful to be supported by an AMAZING School Council. All parents are invited to our first meeting which will be held in-person at the school starting at 6:00 PM on September 16. You can follow our Council news, reminders, and activities on Instagram at @lakeshore_families.

Bingo Volunteers Needed
We would love 6 BEARY generous parents to sign up for Bingo on September 27th (plus two backups). This is a non-smoking environment, and you do not need volunteer clearance - you just must be 18 or older to participate. Please consider signing up online HERE. If you have questions, you can reach out to us at lakeshorefundraisers@gmail.com. Thank you so much for your support—it truly makes a difference to our students! Erin and Matt, Lakeshore Fundraising Association.

That’s a lot of information for week 1 and thank you for reviewing. Some updates will be longer than others, but they will always be highlighted by headings for easy perusal. Our school team aims to keep our parents informed, and you can check out our School Instagram account and our other school specific Instagram accounts.

We are looking forward to a great first week! Thanks for being supportive and kind Mama and Papa Bears.

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
