Hello Lakeshore Families,
Happy Super Bowl Sunday and I hope that your weekend is going well. Here are your updates for the week ahead at Lakeshore:
No Classes Thursday, Friday, or Monday
There are no classes for students on Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14 for Teacher’s Convention and Monday, February 17 is Family Day. Classes for students will resume on Tuesday, February 18.
Spirit Week at Lakeshore
Our Student Council has planned the following events this week for students:
· Monday – Funky Socks Day – wear your craziest socks and be sure to show them off.
· Tuesday – Squads Day – find a friend of group to dress alike with.
· Wednesday – Pink or Red Day – we will tally up the red and pink clothing to see who wins.
Staffing Update – Congrats to Mr. deBoer!
Last Tuesday, all families were informed of Mr. deBoer’s appointment to principal of Briar Hill School. This is certainly a well-deserved promotion. Everyone at Lakeshore is so thankful for Mr. deBoer and his positive impact on our school. His last day at Lakeshore will be Wednesday, and students and families are encouraged to share some kind words before he departs. It is anticipated that there will be a new Assistant Principal in place for a March 10 start date. In the interim, we are pleased to welcome Mike McMahon in the acting role. A recent retiree, Mike has extensive experience as a CBE principal including a stop as the Area 5 System Principal. Mike will begin at Lakeshore on February 18.
Lottery Takes Place Wednesday
The lottery for the 2025-2026 school year at Lakeshore will take place on Wednesday, February 12. It is our intention to notify families as quickly as possible and notices may be sent out as early as Wednesday afternoon. Families looking to ensure their child is entered into the lottery need to have all documentation in place by noon on Tuesday, February 11 – please note that all grade 5 students attending our feeder schools will automatically be included in the lottery. All relevant information can be found on the CBE website HERE.
Family Well-Being Evening Event
All Lakeshore families are invited to our Well-Being Evening on Wednesday, February 19 starting at 6:30 PM at the school. The event is FREE and hosted by our Lakeshore School Council with the hope of benefitting our students and families. Guests scheduled to present at the event include Tracey Orr – Lakeshore Student Services teacher, Brittany and Brynlee Harper – a Lakeshore mom and daughter, and co-authors of Rise Up 20 Days To A Healthier Mindset For Teen And Tweens, and Connie Jakab – a Calgary-based wellness coach and consultant. Please RSVP HERE.
Casino Volunteers Needed
We are very close to rounding out our final casino volunteer roster for our March 14 and 15 dates, but we need a few more people to fill in the last spots. Please consider helping us to get over the hump by signing up HERE.
January Attendance Reports Out
As per our school responsibility, reports were sent to students who missed 20% or more of school days in January. These include excused (parents called in) and unexcused absences.
