Hello Lakeshore Families,

I hope you’re enjoying a nice weekend and hopefully you had a chance to take in some final weekend action from the Olympics. Here are your updates for the week ahead:

Report Cards Available Tuesday
Students Semester 1 report cards will be available for parents on Tuesday via your MyCBE account. Instructions on how to access reports can be found HERE.

No Classes – Friday
Friday, February 27 is a CBE-wide Professional Learning Day. There are no classes for students.

Lockdown Practice – Tuesday
Although we typically do not announce Lockdown Drills in advance, considering the recent events in Tumbler Ridge, BC I feel it is important to do so. We will have a scheduled practice on Tuesday morning. This will be announced to students, and our staff will review our procedures beforehand. All lockdown drills are conducted by the Calgary Police Service.

Pink Shirt Day – Wednesday
All students are encouraged to wear a Pink Shirt on Wednesday as Lakeshore joins the CBE in supporting Pink Shirt Day.

Drop-off / Pickup Courtesy
Parents, please show courtesy to one another during our drop-off and pickup times. We have seen an increasing number of situations where vehicles are double-parking and parking / waiting in intersections and in front of driveways. Some parents are blocking bus areas, doing u-turns, and speeding through the playground zone. In the morning, the area directly right in front of the school main entry is drop-off only. There is no waiting in this area, and vehicles will be asked to move. Some tips: 1) if you’re in a hurry, leave early; 2) ensure your child is leaving the house dressed for the weather in case they need to wait outside for a few minutes before the doors open; 3) drop-off or pickup away from the school and let your child walk; 4) find a regular waiting spot further away from the school. Thank you.

Staffing Update
Please welcome our new Administrative Assistant, Shayna James, to the role. Shayna is obviously a familiar face having served as Lakeshore’s lead school secretary over the past couple years. Congratulations Shayna!

Attendance Reports
We will be sending out combined January / February attendance reports to families at the beginning of March. Students who have missed 20% or more of scheduled school days will receive notice from the school. If you are interested in viewing your child’s attendance, reports are available at all times via your MyCBE account with instructions HERE.

Ramadan / Prayer Space
We are supportive of our students who are observing Ramadan and will provide prayer space upon request. If your child will be requiring a space, please email lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca and arrangements will be made.

Bears Athletics
Volleyball
Volleyball Prospects: This team will have their end of season tournament on Friday, March 6. Forms were sent home with players this week and fees have been added to their PowerSchool accounts.

Grade 6 Volleyball Club: This club is still running every Thursday after school in the main gym until 4:00pm. If players missed last week, they are still welcome to join the fun this week.

Be Brave Hitmen Game
On Tuesday the grade 7's will be going to the Be Brave Hitman Hockey game. The Buses are scheduled to leave the school at 9:30am and return around 2:15pm.  Further information about the field trip was sent in an email earlier this week from Ms. Clark.

Interested in Part Time Work? Lunchroom Supervisors Needed
Lakeshore and schools in southeast Calgary are in need of casual lunchroom supervisors. For many parents looking to obtain a role in the Calgary Board of Education becoming a lunchroom supervisor has proven to be a good way to provide the opportunity. If you are interested in the possibility of becoming a substitute or regular lunchroom supervisor, please feel free to start the process with information HERE. You are also welcome to email me at itfero@cbe.ab.ca to express your interest.

Hot Lunch Options
Selections for the week of March 2 include Pizzaberg, Mucho Burrito, Mr. Pretzel, and Spolumbos. Orders can be placed HERE. Pizza is available on Wednesday for $5 (cash or tap) without pre-order.

Have a wonderful week!

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
