Hello Lakeshore Families,

We are looking at flipping the calendar to March at the end of the week and it’s hard to believe how fast the school year is going. Here are your updates for the week:

Lakeshore Coffee Fundraiser

Our School Council Fundraising Association has teamed with a local roaster to create a coffee just for Lakeshore. Our goal is to sell one bag of coffee per student. The website is HERE. Top three student sellers will receive a gift card to SouthCentre with the top-selling class receiving a pizza party.

Pink Shirt Day – Wednesday

Wednesday marks our annual Pink Shirt Day campaign. The pink shirt symbolizes an individual and group commitment to anti-bullying. By wearing a pink shirt, we show commitment to kindness, mutual respect and the opportunity to lift each other up. Please encourage your child to wear pink on Wednesday.

Be Brave Field Trip – Grade 7s

In conjunction with Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday Feb 28, Grade 7 students will be going to the Calgary Hitmen Be Brave hockey game. Participating students will receive a pink t-shirts before loading the bus at 9:45 AM. Students not attending the trip will be assigned to other classrooms for the day.

Yearbooks – Last Week for Sales

So, that came up quickly! Yearbook sales will close this week so please make sure you order yours ASAP. The yearbook is a treasured item for all students, and yearbook distribution day is always one of the most exciting days at school. Yearbooks are $30 and can be ordered HERE. We will not be ordering extra copies.

Athletics – Battle of Auburn Bay

On Monday the junior and senior girls will be walking over to Prince of Peace school to play for the Auburn Bay cup. Spectators are welcome, the game starts at 3:45 PM and Lakeshore teachers will be there to supervise Lakeshore fans. The Senior Girls play first with Junior Girls to follow. The battle continues Thursday at Lakeshore with Senior Boys playing at 3:45 PM and Junior Boys to follow. Whatever school wins the most sets will take possession of the Auburn Bay Cup until the next challenge. Once again spectators are welcome.

Athletics – Prospects Volleyball Tournament

Lakeshore Top Volleyball Prospects Tournament will be on Friday March 1. Much like the basketball tournament we run in November, this is an opportunity for our grade 7 prospect teams to play against other school and gain more experience. Players need to have forms returned to Mr. Koshin and make sure to attend their last practice on Wednesday.

Lottery Process Update

All of our main processes have been completed, with letters out to all families of students in all next-year grades informing them of placement or overflow. All students designated to overflow at Nickle School will remain on callback lists and will be offered places if and when they become available. This process will continue throughout the spring, summer and through end-September.

Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy

As we set to enter the final four months of the school year, we want to remind students and parents of our Away for the Day Cell Phone Policy (available HERE). We have several students who have progressed well beyond the second offence. Our staff will be extra diligent in monitoring over the next while so there may be calls to parents for phone pick up.

Farewell to Ms. Smith-Myrthu

On Friday, we said farewell to our School Secretary, Ms. Martine Smith-Myrthu, who is taking her talents to the world of High School. Many of you would have known Ms. Smith-Myrthu from your phone, email and in-person interactions. She was always kind and welcoming, especially to our students coming into the office. We are so thankful to have had Ms. Smith-Myrthu with us to start the Lakeshore journey and we all wish her the best in her new role. The “Allison’s”, Ms. Fife and Ms. Hunter, will still be your friendly faces in the office and they will be joined by Ms. Adrienne Angers.

Thanks, and we’re looking forward to another great week at Lakeshore.

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
