Hello Lakeshore Families,
Semester Two has got off to a great start and students are now into their new complementary course schedule. Here are a few updates for the week ahead:
Managing Cold Weather
A “Blue Day” at Lakeshore occurs when the temperature is -20 degrees or colder, with windchill. During Blue Days all teacher classrooms are open at lunch. Students are strongly discouraged from leaving the school and exit doors are monitored to ensure students who do choose to leave are wearing jackets and other winter wear. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing, a lunch and snacks to get through the cold snap.
Student Drop Off
Our doors open at 8:20 AM in the morning. We know that drop offs increase with cold weather. Please remember that the area directly in front of the school is for drop off only and there is no waiting in this area at any time and waiting cars will be cleared. If you wish to wait for the doors to open at 8:20 AM, please do so along the east side curb area beyond the bus zone.
Family Mental Health Evening – Wednesday, February 19
Does your child struggle with anxiety and positive mental health? You are not alone. Our School Council is hosting a family evening on Wednesday, February 19 starting at 6:30 PM at the school. The evening will feature testimonials and tips from our very own Harper family – co-authors of Rise Up 20 Days To A Healthier Mindset For Teen And Tweens, and a keynote address from Connie Jakab. The event is FREE for all Lakeshore families and interested community members are also welcome. Our previous council-hosted events have all been positively received, so we hope you may join us to explore this important topic. Please RSVP HERE so our council can prepare to host.
Grade 9 High School Transitions
Thanks to those families who attended the Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School on January 30. Grade 9 teachers have been communicating with students and home regarding course recommendations and this process continues. If any parents have questions, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher or our Student Services teacher, Ms. Hopkins (mnhopkins@cbe.ab.ca).
Bears Athletics
Wrestling
The wrestling season concluded with the divisional meet last week. Our wrestlers did exceptionally well, bringing home the title in all 4 categories (Novice Boys, Novice Girls, Senior Boys and Senior Girls). Lakeshore is very proud of our wrestlers and all the work they have put in this season. Way to go Lakeshore! The Wrestling team will celebrate their season on Wednesday February 12 from 3- 4:15 in the aux gym. More information will be sent home from the coaches.
Hot Lunch Options
Options for the week of November 10th include Subway, Mary Brown’s and Tahini’s. Place your orders HERE. Pizza Wednesdays continue with hot pizza for $5 – no pre-order required.
February Calendar
As a reminder for planning purposes, there are no classes for students on Thursday, February 13 or Friday, February 14 due to Teacher’s Convention and there are also no classes on Monday, February 17 for Family Day. Wednesday, February 19 is our School Council Meeting (5:00 PM) and Family Mental Health Evening (6:30 PM). Pink Shirt Day is on February 26.
That’s all the updates for now. Stay warm and have a great week.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
