Hello Lakeshore Families,

January is flying by, and there is lots of exciting learning and extra-curricular activities happening at our school. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:

The Winter Band Concert is a 6:00 pm, on Thursday, January 22nd in the Lakeshore School Gym. Doors will open at 5:30 pm. No tickets or cost required. The event is open to the public, so please invite anyone who might be interested.

School Council Meeting – Wednesday
All parents are invited to attend our first school council meeting of 2026. The meeting will start at 6:00 PM in our school learning commons (library). Topics of interest from the school organization standpoint include report cards, registration and lottery, and video surveillance technology.

No Power School Access
Our teachers are currently working on preparing report cards and during this time power school access will be unavailable. Students requiring information from Power School are encouraged to speak with their teachers. Report cards will be available to parents on February 24.

Bears Athletics
Volleyball
Prospect volleyball starts this week, Tuesday at 7:00 AM and Wednesday from 2:40 - 4:15 PM. This volleyball team is for grade 7 students who did NOT make a junior team and grade 6 students with previous volleyball experience. This team does require players to attend practices regularly and is capped at 26 players, with preference going to grade 7 students. There will be a fee associated with Prospect volleyball to cover the cost of the tournament at the end of the season. Interested students need to make sure their Annual Athletics Authorization is completed but do not need to sign up prior to the first practice. If you require another athletics form it can be found HERE.

Grade 6 volleyball club will NOT start this week due to the band concert. The first practice will be moved to Thursday January 29, from 2:40- 4:00, which will be the weekly practice time. There is no cost associated with this team, but participants do need an Annual Athletics Authorization form submitted. If this form was completed in September, then nothing new must be done.

Wild FC Girls In Sport Presentation
This coming Friday we are excited to welcome Farkunda Muhtaj from the Calgary Wild FC. Farkunda is a female professional soccer player that will present about the importance of sport, leadership, goal setting and dreaming big. Girls from our soccer, basketball and volleyball teams will all be invited to the presentation that will also include a question-and-answer period, and autograph signing. While we recognize how this presentation could have a positive impact on all the girls at Lakeshore, these teams total a group of over 50 girls, and a small group setting is preferred.

E-Sports Club Begins - Thursday!
We are excited to share that our school’s E-Sports Club will be starting up again this week!

Beginning this Thursday, students are invited to participate in friendly, supervised gaming sessions every Thursday from 2:40 – 4:00 PM. Students will have the opportunity to play and compete in popular games such as NHL 25, Super Smash Bros, and Mario Kart in a positive and inclusive environment.

E-sports offers many benefits for students, including:
- Building teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship skills
- Encouraging strategic thinking, problem-solving, and quick decision-making
- Providing a safe and structured space for students to connect over shared interest
- Helping students build confidence and a sense of belonging within the school community

The focus of our E-Sports Club is on fun, respect, and friendly competition. All students are welcome, regardless of experience level. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Apperley at kfapperley@cbe.ab.ca. We look forward to a great season of gaming and community-building!
