Hello Lakeshore Families,
Our school is preparing to host this week with two big events on tap. Here are the updates you need for a busy week at Lakeshore:
Bear Fest – Monday!
Our week kicks off with our annual Bear Fest with Food Trucks, Carnival-style games, music, and fun. Our School Council has been working hard to ensure fun times for all. The event will run from 2:40 to 6:00 (approx.) and all students, families, and community members are welcome to attend. Please take some time of your busy day to come and celebrate. If you can, please walk on over as we anticipate many visitors. Students are welcome to attend on their own but are expected to demonstrate kind, respectful behaviour throughout the event.
Bear Fest Parent Volunteers Urgently Needed
Parents, with Bear Fest about 24 hours away, we need you! Please take a moment to check out the Online Sign Up to see if you can volunteer for a shift. Shifts are about an hour in length, and any support would be appreciated. All parent volunteers will get a special treat for your help.
Comp Course Showcase and Band Concert
We will host our Complementary Course Showcase and Band Concert on Thursday. Doors for the Comp Course Showcase will open at 4:30 PM and the event will run until 6:00 PM. Gym doors for the Band Concert will open at 5:30 PM with the show set to begin at 6:00 PM.
Bears Athletics
Community Outreach
On Monday, a group of 34 grade 9 students will be at Bayside School running a mock track and field day for the grade 4 and 5 students. We wish those volunteers luck and the some sunshine.
Badminton
Grade 7 badminton team will be celebrating their successful banner season on Tuesday afterschool. Players can meet in the gym.
Physical Education Reminder
A reminder that students have PE daily at Lakeshore and need to have appropriate footwear. As the weather warms up many students enjoy wearing shoes such as crocs and birks. Students that were keeping runners in their lockers have taken them home for various reasons and need help remembering to come to school prepared for activity everyday. Water bottles are also strongly encouraged. If classes are out on the field during warm days, students cannot come back into the school to go to the water fountain until the end of the PE period.
Class Size Reduction Grant
Lakeshore is pleased to have received funding through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant for two additional teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. Planning and staffing decisions are currently underway with more information to come out in advance of school start-up.
Driver Caution Urged / Rider Safety
We are asking all drivers to please be aware at all times while in the community. There are lots of kids out and about on bikes and scooters and, sadly, they don’t always make the most conscious choices. Parents are also asked to review rules of the road and dos and don’ts with their children and ensure helmets are worn. This reminder was urged after one of our students was struck by a vehicle last week. Thankfully, the student was uninjured.
Hot Lunch Options
Selections for the final week of the school year include Subway, Via Cibo, Popeyes, Jelly Doughnuts, and Opa. Place your orders HERE.
In addition to the school events, our grade 6 and 9 students continue with Provincial Achievement tests this week and our teachers are actively preparing final assessments and report cards. It should be another great week at Lakeshore. We hope you have a great week too!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero
