Hello Lakeshore Families,
Happy Father’s Day to all the Papa Bears in Lakeshore land. Thanks for all you do for our students and community. Today is also summer solstice, so Father’s Day falls on the longest day of the year.
It’s hard to believe, but here we are entering the final week of the 2025-2026 school year. It’s been a positive and memorable ride, and we are looking forward to great week. Here is the information you need to know:
Bear Fest – Thank You!
Thanks to all our School Council organizing committee, parent and student volunteers and attendees for making our 3rd Annual Bear Fest a success. The event is such a fun time for the students and community, and it represents the best of our school. We are already looking forward to Bear Fest 2027!
Report Cards – Available Thursday
On Thursday parents will be able to access their child’s report card via their MyCBE account.
Last Day of School – Friday
Friday will be the last day of the school year. We will follow our regular hours with a 12:10 PM dismissal.
Vacationing Early? Email the School
Parents are asked to email in to lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca if your child is not going to be in attendance for any days this week. Likewise, if are planning any early pickups, please email the school and your child’s homeroom teachers to so we can be prepared.
Phones This Week
We will begin locker cleanout on Wednesday meaning students will not be able to lock their phones in their lockers on Thursday and Friday. Students are asked to leave their phones at home, but if they do choose to bring them teachers will be collecting them during class time. Teachers will not be responsible for any damage to phones while in their care.
Student Lunch Plans This Week
Grade 6 students will follow their regular lunch plans for the week. Students in grade 7-9 will be asked to go outside for the full lunch period on Tuesday for a picnic lunch so we can begin preparations for our Grade 9 Farewell. Monday will be our last day for Snack Shack and there will be no pizza sales on Wednesday.
Sports Day – Thursday
Weather permitting, our grade 6, 7, and 9 students will participate in our Sports Day activities on Thursday. Please ensure your child is prepared for outdoor play and has a water bottle. Grade 8 students will be attending their year-end field trip.
Attendance Notices
Students who have missed more than 20% of the school year, for any reason, will be receiving a formal attendance letter this week. This letter will be filed as part of the official student record. Detailed attendance records are available on your MyCBE account and a summery will be part of your child’s final report card.
Indigenous Peoples Day / Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
June is Indigenous History Month, and June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. At Lakeshore, we are preparing to renew our annual commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. You can look for this posted HERE later this week.
Back to School 2026-2027
Our first day of school for next year will be August 31. You will receive a welcome letter from your child’s new homeroom teacher on Thursday, August 27 and our office will open on the same day. Our Back to School Page contains relevant information including student supply lists for grade 7-9 students, and our new calendar can be found HERE.
System Student Accommodation Plan
With a new middle school announced for Mahogany, we anticipate accommodation updates from the CBE. You can stay tuned for information HERE.
With Appreciation
Thanks everyone who checks in with this update each week. I appreciate your effort to stay informed and follow along with what’s happening at the school. Your partnership and support make this a team effort.
I also want to shout out our students for being so awesome. Special recognition goes to our Grade 9 students – you have been great Lakeshore role models, and I wish you the best of luck in High School.
Finally, I want to thank our Lakeshore staff for an amazing year. Each staff member shows up each day with the intention of making a difference in the lives of each student. They collaborate effectively with each other to create a shared experience for all students and enhance the culture of the school through extra-curricular commitments. I want to wish the best to our departing staff: Mr. Auburn, Ms. Parent, Mr. Koshin, Mr. Hull, Mr. Porter, Ms. Orr (thanks for coming out of retirement to rejoin us), Ms. Taylor, and Ms. Edwards. Thank you for all you have done to make our school such a great place. You will be missed, and best of luck with your new adventures.
The end of year brings a lot of emotions, but there is much to celebrate. I want to wish everyone a safe and happy summer. This is the final update of the school year with the next one coming your way on August 30, 2026, prior to our first day of school on August 31.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
