Hello Lakeshore Families,
Welcome to summer, and welcome to the final week of the school year. It’s hard to believe it has arrived, but we made it. Here are your updates to the week:
Early Dismissal Final Day
Thursday, June 27th will be the last day of the school year and students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on this day.
Report Cards available Wednesday
Your child’s report card will be available on Wednesday, June 26 via your MyCBE account. We have been impressed with increased achievement for many this semester and hope you enjoy the progress and comments from your children’s teachers. If you need help accessing reports, please refer to the link HERE for help. Online report card access will last for one month until July 26. It is recommended that you download or print your child’s report card.
Absences / Locker Cleanout
If your child is going to be missing any time this week, please email to lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca to report their absence. Classes will be conducting locker cleanouts this week. If your child will NOT be at school this week, their locker items will be bagged and tagged for pickup. Please make arrangements for a family member or friend to claim these items for your child as all items will be donated, recycled or disposed of as of 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Office Busyness
Just a note that our office team have a lot of year-end tasks to successfully close the school year. Thank you in advance for your understanding this week as they work hard to get things done the right way.
Summer Office Hours
Our school office will close at 12:30 PM on Thursday and re-open on Tuesday, August 27th.
First Day of Classes
The first day of classes for next year will on Thursday, August 29th at 8:30 AM. A welcome back email will come from your child’s new homeroom teacher on August 27th which will contain all relevant information. Supply lists and updated back-to-school information can be found on our website HERE.
Staffing Updates
We are anticipating another year of relative stability at Lakeshore with minimal staff movement. With that said, we do have a few staffing updates at this time:
· School Secretary, Allison Hunter, will be moving into a promoted office role at Somerset School. Allison has been part of our kind and welcoming office team since our opening and there is a good possibility that you or your kids have had many interactions with Allison. If she is one of your people, hopefully you have a chance to thank her and wish her well.
· Temporary contracts for McKinna Peters, Amanda Beazer, Crystal Cooper and Blaine Chapman are concluding however, we are hopeful that we may not have to say goodbye to each of them just yet.
· Megan MacRitchie is expected to return from her maternity leave for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, and will assume her role as CFT (Complementary Courses) Learning Leader. Welcome back Megan!
· We are welcoming Mandi Davies to our growing Grade 9 team. Mandi arrives from Chief Justice Milvain school and she is eager to get back to working in a middle school. She will be part of the Humanities team. Welcome Mandi!
· Educational Assistants Tracey Sheppard and Ashley Robin will be moving on to new opportunities for next year. We want to thank them for all they have done in support of our school and students.
· Lunchroom Supervisor Candice Bouman will be moving to New Brighton School as our Grade 6 lunchroom program shrinks in size. Thank you, Candice!
Celebrating Our Grade 9s and Departing Students
I would like to congratulate our grade 9 students who are moving on to high school. Each of you has contributed something memorable to our school and you have represented Lakeshore with Bravery, Excellence, Ambition and Respect. We wish you all the best in your new school journey. We also have a few students in other grades moving on to new schools for next year and we want to extend our best wishes to you as well.
Thank you Parents!
Parents, your role as partners is an essential part of our success at Lakeshore. Together, we do an amazing job of guiding these amazing kids through the trials of life in middle school. The kind words, smiles, and waves really do mean a lot. Above all, we feel that you are as proud of Lakeshore as we are. We really do appreciate all that our Mama and Papa Bears do.
We will miss our students, and hope that everyone has a safe and happy summer. See you in August!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
