Hello Lakeshore Families,
Hopefully we “spring ahead” to actual spring weather. The forecast is indeed looking a little more seasonal. Here are your updates for the week:
Coffee Fundraiser – Deadline Tuesday
Parents, we need your help with our School Council Fundraising Association Coffee Fundraiser. We are less than 20% of the way to our goal with only a couple days left. We are hopeful to see a bag per every Lakeshore student on the way to 900+. Please consider participating by visiting the link here: https://fundabl.azurewebsites.net/organization/lake. Top sellers get a $25 gift card to SouthCentre!
Your Voice Matters – Survey on Fees and School Development Planning
As we prepare for the 2024-2025 School Year, we are looking for parent feedback regarding fees and our School Development Plan. Have your say in our 5 minute engagement survey here: https://lakeshore.cbedialogue.com/en/projects/2024-2025-school-year/engagements/school-planning-survey-2024-middle-junior
Book Fair has Arrived!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The Scholastic Book Fair is BACK for 4 days only, March 11th – 14th. Please stop by the Learning Commons to shop the exciting collection of latest titles and trinkets. We will be accepting all forms of payment: cash, credit, debit, and Apple pay.
Our school earns a minimum of 35% and up to 50% back in rewards of the total sales of our book fair. Each purchase helps us add to our library collection and obtain valuable teaching resources for our classrooms. Thank you in advance for your participation!
Complementary Course Selection for Next Year
Complementary Courses are one of the most exciting aspects of the Middle School experience as they introduce, and develop, a skill set that complements the program of studies explored in other areas. At Lakeshore School, our Grade 6 students will explore Complementary Courses in a rotating wheel, which includes Music, Drama, Foods, Art, Digital Media, and Construction. Incoming Grade 6 students will not need to select any Complementary Courses for the 2024-25 school year. Our Grade 7, 8, and 9 students take four Complementary Courses a year, two in each semester. During the week of March 11-15 information will be shared with students by their teachers and an email will be sent home to families about what courses will be offered with course descriptions. Students will then make their COMP Course selection the Week of March 18-22 at school on their MYCBE Account (*Please ensure your child knows how to log on to their account). Please watch your email for information regarding Complementary Courses this week and thank you for your continued support of the work we do at Lakeshore School.
Discussing Mental Health and Anxiety
Many parents continue to reach out to the school for support with teen mental wellness, and particularly anxiety. Learn how to support teenagers with stress and anxiety during an online session on Thursday, March 14 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Our partners from AHS will clarify the language around mental health and provide effective coaching strategies to help youth manage their stress and anxiety. This would be a great session for all teens and parents. Meeting link is HERE.
Bears Athletics
Volleyball
Best of Luck to all the Lakeshore Volleyball teams starting playoffs this week. This has been a long season, and all of these teams have worked very hard. Huge thank you to all the coaches for the hours and energy they volunteer to make these teams possible. Please see below for the playoff schedule. Spectators are only allowed at other schools with adult supervision in a 1:6 max ratio.

· Jr. Boys: 2nd vs. 3rd semi-final - Wednesday 5:15 @ Samuel Shaw
· Jr. Girls: 1st vs. 4th semi-final - Thursday 5:15 @ RT Alderman
All finals games are the same night and location starting at 6:15pm, Jr. Girls at 7:15pm
Badminton
The badminton season will start when we return from Spring Break. A tryout schedule will be made available on the athletics Instagram soon, @Lakeshoreathletics. This year Lakeshore will be running four full badminton teams, one for each Grade 6-9. The Grade 6 team will be a full badminton team, with practices and a tournament just like the older grades. Students must try-out for their grade specific team unless they are a Provincially ranked player, in which case they try-out for the grade above them. Reminder that students need to have an annual athletics authorization completed to attend tryouts.
Spring Dance – March 21
Lakeshore will be hosting our Spring Fling School Dance on March 21 during the afternoon. Our dances have been a highlight of the school year for many of our students. There will be a Live DJ and concession sales. More information to come.
Healthy Hunger
Hot Lunch offerings for the week of March 18th include Papa John’s, Subway, Mucho Burrito, and Boardwalk Burgers. Place your order at https://healthyhunger.ca. On-demand pizza sales will continue each Wednesdays with slices for $5.
Have a wonderful week!
