Hello Lakeshore Families,

Happy weekend to all. We are looking forward to our parents / teacher conferences this week as we all prepare to head into Spring Break. Here are your updates for the week ahead:

Parents / Teacher Conferences – Thursday and Friday
Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents on Thursday evening and Friday morning. Bookings are current LIVE and will remain open until March 19 at 4 PM. All conferences must be booked online via your MyCBE/PowerSchool account. You must use the email address that the office has on file to create/access the account, otherwise it will give you an error code. Please keep the confirmation email for each meeting time as this contains the link you will need to access the online meeting. The office is not able to re-send any meeting links. Due to time limitations, and a limited number of bookings for each teacher, students/parents/guardians will only be able to sign up for one time slot per teacher/teacher group. Meetings fill up quickly so be sure to book early. If the teacher you are wishing to book is full with no timeslots available, please email the teacher directly to set up a meeting at an alternate time.

PE / Complementary Course Teachers / Student Services Bookings
In additional to meeting with your child’s core (Humanities and Math/Science), parents are encouraged to book meetings with your child’s other teachers in PE and Complementary Courses. You can also book some time with our Student Services team as well. The booking system to set a time with these teachers is the same and done through the same process.

No School For Students on Friday
There are no classes for students on Friday, March 21 due to parent / teacher conferences.

Spring Break
The Annual Spring Break will run from Friday, March 21 to Sunday, March 30. Classes will resume on Monday, March 31. The school will be closed during this time.

School Council Meeting – Wednesday Online
Our March School Council Meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 6 PM and is moving to an online format for this month. I have booked the online meeting on behalf of the council and If you would like to attend, please email me at itfero@cbe.ab.ca to receive a meeting link.

Casino Thank You!
A HUGE thank you to all parents and friends of Lakeshore who volunteered for our casino efforts this past weekend. It took a massive team of people to make it happen and things went off smoothly. A special thank you to our Casino Chair, Shauna Lawrie, who began organizing this for our school even before we were open. The paperwork, commitment and sleepless nights are deeply appreciated. It is anticipated that Lakeshore’s volunteer commitment to the casino will ensure that $75k-$100k is awarded to our school for capital projects toward our fundraising goals.

School Planning Survey Closed
Thank you to the 70 participants who took the time to complete our School Planning Survey. Parent feedback is an essential part in finding our way forward. A full breakdown of the survey results will be shared at the April School Council meeting, but initial results show that 87% of parents strongly agree or agree with the direction of our School Development Plan with 83% of parents sharing they strongly agree or agree that priorities for all students are considered in the plan. Regarding fees, the top priorities are curricular enhancements, option (complementary) courses, and field trips. The primary vehicle for parent voice is through involvement in our School Council and all parents are encouraged to attend the meetings.

Bears Athletics
Volleyball
Seniors vs. Teachers volleyball games: Senior girls go Monday at lunch, Senior boys to Tuesday at lunch. Players need to wear their volleyball uniforms, which they will turn in after the game. Grade 8-9 students are welcome to watch in the gym.

Junior volleyball players: please return your uniforms to coaches before Spring Break.

Prospects: Congratulations!! This group of 27 players were split between two teams for a large tournament put on by Lakeshore on Friday. Amazingly, both our Lakeshore teams made it to the final, taking first and second place. Special appreciation goes to all the teachers that made this opportunity possible for all the students involved.

Badminton
Badminton season is set to start when Spring Break is over. We have 2 possible scenarios:

If the CUPE strike is resolved: Tryouts will start April 1st and follow this schedule:

If the strike is not over on April 1: We will run a badminton club. This club will only meet on the grades after school practice times. This club will be open to all people in that age group. The same coaches will monitor the club and will work to develop the players skills. If there is large demand for spots in badminton club, preference will be given to students with consistent attendance.

Indigenous Community Connections – Spring Equinox
The upcoming spring equinox, on March 20th, will indicate the beginning of a new season. Once again, Na'toosi (Grandfather Sun) and Kokomikisomm (Grandmother Moon) will share the sky equally, providing a balance of day and night. Motoyi (spring in Blackfoot) is a time of renewal and new beginnings. After a season of rest, the land comes to life with new growth, movement, and sounds. Green grass appears, the rivers thaw, beavers emerge from their winter lodges, and buffalo calves are born. The First Thunder signals a time for sacred practices and ceremonies to begin. This initiates a time of preparation, a time of gathering when the roots, berries, and medicines provide for Niitsitapi again.

Hot Lunch Options
Options for the week of March 31 include Chachi’s, Taco Time, Tahini’s and Subway. Orders can be placed HERE. Pizza on-demand sales continue each Wednesday in the Snack Shack.

That’s all the news for this week. The next parent update will come your way on Sunday, March 30 as we emerge from Spring Break. Have a great week and meetings with your children’s teachers and enjoy a fun-filled Spring Break.

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
