Hello Lakeshore Families,
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mama Bears and thank you for raising great students who are even better young people. I hope they make your day a special one. Here are the updates for another busy week ahead.
No Classes Friday
Friday, May 15 is a CBE system-wide non-instructional day and there are no classes for students. Students will return to class on Tuesday, May 19 after the Victoria Day long weekend.
It’s Spirit Week!
Our Lakeshore Student Council has planned four fun-filled spirit days this week and we encourage all students to participate:
· Monday – PJ Day
· Tuesday – Dress like a Celebrity
· Wednesday – Teacher / Student Switch Day (dress like a teacher)
· Thursday – Beach Day
Student Dance Thursday
Our Student Council beach-theme spring dance will be on Thursday afternoon. Concession tickets will be sold on Thursday at lunch, and it is set to be another memorable day. Alternate activities will be offered to students who prefer a quiet space.
It’s Production Week – Be Our Guest!
Lakeshore Drama presents Beauty and the Beast, a tale as old as time. Shows are set for Wednesday and Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 PM. There are still some tickets available. For ease of purchase, please email our Production lead, Amanda Beazer, at ambeazer@cbe.ab.ca and she will arrange for sale. There will also be a small number available for cash purchase at the door. All shows will be at the Evan Hazell Theatre at the Seton YMCA. Please join us for a magical evening.
Bears Athletics
Badminton
Congratulations to the Senior boys' singles and boys' doubles badminton teams for finishing in first place at the divisional meet last week. Good luck to the grade 6 & 8 badminton teams at their divisional meet this week. The grade 6 badminton team has planned their season celebration for Thursday May 14th during lunch. A reminder that badminton fees are now overdue. Please make sure these have been paid in your PowerSchool account.
Track and Field Volunteers needed
The PE team need parent volunteers for the track and field day on Tuesday June 2, from 8:00am - 4:30pm. Volunteers are welcome to use their own transportation to Foothills Athletic field. They will be able to watch their own children compete and are asked to support all the other athletes throughout the day with staying hydrated and using sunscreen. Volunteers need to have their clearance already completed. Please contact Ms. Clark (agclark@cbe.ab.ca) if you are available and interested.
Bike and Scooter Safety
We are so happy to see so many kids wheeling to school, but children still need spring reminders from parents on safety. Here are a few helpful reminders:
· Bike helmets are required for anyone under 18
· Riding on sidewalks and pathways are permitted for children 14 and under
· There is a maximum speed limit of 20km / hour for all bikes and scooters
· Bikes and scooters must yield the way to pedestrians
· Students need to be aware of vehicle traffic at all times and are asked not to weave in and out of parked cars.
Hot Lunch Options
Offerings for the week of May 19 include KFC, Edo, and Donair Grill. Orders can be placed HERE. Pizza-on-Demand sales continue Wednesdays.
Finally, a big thank you for our parents for providing a selection of treats for our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Have an amazing week and see you at the theatre!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
