Hello Lakeshore Families,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Lakeshore Mama Bears. It’s been another great weekend in Calgary. Here ae your updates for the week ahead:

School Dance – Thursday
Our Spring School Dance will take place on Thursday afternoon. This a much anticipated and fun event for all students. Teachers will have supervised alternate activity spaces (quiet / study space, games room) for students who don’t want to participate in the dance. Small items will be sold at a concession run by our Student Council with pre-sales running on Wednesday and Thursday at lunch.

Open House for New Lakeshore Students – Thursday
On Thursday, May 15 new incoming students and families are invited to Lakeshore for our Open House and information session. We look forward to welcoming you!

No Classes for Students – Friday, Monday
Friday is a CBE-wide Professional Learning Day and Monday, May 19 is Victoria Day. There are no classes for students on these days. Enjoy your long weekend!

Next Year Class Lists
Our teachers will soon begin to construct class lists for next year. The process is very thorough and takes many factors into consideration. We regard class composition to be one of the most important things we do to set our students up for success. One of the criteria we try to incorporate into our work is the hope that each student will transition to their next year grade with a friend. In making these decisions it is important to consider the context of what a friend at school looks like. A school friend is someone who supports your child in their academic pursuits. Quite often, these friends are very different than those who your child may spend time with outside of school hours with, including on sports teams. Each student will have the chance to share names of peers who they feel are good choices as school friends and their voice will be considered in the creation of class lists.

As you can imagine, there will be cases where not all requests will be able to be accommodated. We ask that you trust our teachers to make the right choice for your child with the understanding that we know your child, and what makes them successful within the context of school and current peer dynamics.
