Hello Lakeshore Families,

Is it just me, or is this month flying by? There are a lot of things happening at the school and we appreciate you reading through the information in the update. Here is what you need to know for this week:

New Student Open House – Thursday
We will be welcome our incoming Grade 6 students, as well as new Grade 7-9 students, and their families on Thursday night for our Open House. Doors will open at 5:45 PM with the event starting promptly at 6:00 PM. We look forward to seeing everyone!

Parent Intro to Pickleball Event – Tuesday
Any parents interested in learning the basics of Pickleball are welcome to join our intro event on Tuesday night starting at 6:00 PM at the school. Local coach, Justin Butler, will be on hand to get everyone going and no equipment is required. If you would like to join in on the fun, please email me at itfero@cbe.ab.ca to secure your spot.

New School Council Executive
At our School Council meeting AGM on Wednesday we selected our new Council / Fundraising Association executive:

·      Natalie Peso will serve as our new Chair moving from the Vice Chair position.

·      Mirita Lovegrove was nominated and selected as our new Vice Chair

·      Dawn Bouchard will remain as Treasurer, entering year 2 of a 2-year term

·      Andrea Smith will remain as Secretary, entering year 2 of a 2-year term

We also bid farewell to Melody Brown Foster, our outgoing Chair. Melody has been Lakeshore’s only Council Chair and has served our school and community since before the school was even announced to be built. Her leadership and commitment to Lakeshore has laid the foundation for Council members and activities for years to come. Thank you Melody!

School Bus Registration is Open
Parents looking to access yellow school bus service for next year are encouraged to register directly. Registering now allows your address to be considered in the development of routes and also ensures your child will be able to access service on day one. Information is HERE and you can register using your MyCBE account. Please email transportation@cbe.ab.ca with any questions as bussing is all managed centrally and not at the school level.

Bears Athletics
Badminton
Congratulations to the grade 7 Badminton team for winning their division championship. That is 2 Badminton banners this year, our best badminton year yet!

Football
The exhibition game was cancelled last week due to weather and rescheduled to this Wednesday, 4:15 at Mckenzie Highlands School. Football fees have been added to PowerSchool accounts.

Track and Field
Forms need to be returned to the school asap. Track practices continue all week in preparation for the June 2 meet. Track athletes are asked to attend as many practices as they can. During practice the coaches level up the training from the lessons taught in PE class, including introducing proper equipment. For example, starting blocks in sprints, competition discuses and the pole in high jump. Please encourage and remind your athletes to attend practice.

We are also still in need of 2 more parent volunteers for the day of the meet. If you are planning on attending anyway and have your clearance completed, please email Ashley Clark at agclark@cbe.ab.ca.

CCTV is Operational
Our security cameras have been installed and are now in use. Parents can access information about CBE security protocols HERE under the Video Surveillance Technology heading.

Bear Fest is Coming Up!
Families are reminded that Bear Fest is coming up on Thursday, June 4 from 2:40 (school dismissal) to 6:00 PM. This is our signature community event and we hope that you can come by to join in on the fun.

Hot Lunch Options
Selections for the week of June 1 include Subway, A&W, Mr. Pretzel and Donair Grill. Place your orders HERE.

Have a wonderful start to your week and thanks for all you do to support Lakeshore!

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
