Hello Lakeshore Families,
I trust everyone has had a great weekend. May continues to slide away quickly and here we are entering the final week of the month. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:
Volunteer Needed
We are looking for one volunteer to assist us during Provincial Achievement Tests on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 – 11 AM. Does not have to be the same person for both days, so if you can even make one, please email me at itfero@cbe.ab.ca.
Lakeshore Presents Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. – One Week Away!
Our school production is one week away and there are still some tickets left. Our students are working very hard to put the finishing touches on everything. Please see the information HERE if you like tickets.
School Council Update
Thanks to all our Lakeshore parents who came to our School Council AGM last week. We are lucky to be supported by such an amazing, dedicated group of parents. Please see a letter from our Council executive HERE. We would like to welcome Dawn Bouchard and Andrea Smith to our Council executive and thank Shauna Lawrie, Jin Deng, Shannon Roen and Cyndi Logelin for their amazing efforts and volunteerism in support of our students and school.
Calendar Planning Note
The last day of school is Thursday, June 26 and this is a half-day of school with students dismissed at 12:30 PM (the same hours as our Friday schedule).
All School Fees Due
Parents are asked to log into their MyCBE account to ensure all school fees are paid and your account is up to date.
Bus Registration for 2025-2026 is Open
Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2025-2026 school year. Registration is available using your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how to create one.) Families must register by Sunday, June 22, 2025 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.
Bears Athletics
Fees for Athletics
There are fees outstanding for various Lakeshore teams. Parents, please make sure you log onto your PowerSchool account to pay these. Fees for school teams are due before the end of each season.
Football
Last week the exhibition game against McKenzie Highlands was postponed due to weather. The game has been moved to Lakeshore on Monday, June 26 at 4:30pm. Once again spectators are welcome and encouraged.
Track and Field
Forms were sent home with all selected track athletes. Please have these forms returned to the school asap. If your student will not be able to participate, please make sure the coaches are aware so another student can be given the opportunity. Fees for the track team should appear on accounts by Tuesday next week. If your student athlete already has a track/ cross country shirt please do not pay for another one, the fee will be removed from your account after the meet.
Track practices continue next week. Each athlete is expected to attend at least one practice per event. While more practice will help students to improve, we understand families have other commitments and may not be able to attend all of them. Practice schedules were sent home in the initial information practice and can be found on Instagram @lakeshoreathletics.
While we appreciate that many students may like to come to the track and field meet to watch and cheer on their peers. The track meet is during regular school hours and students not participating in track are expected to be at school. Parents please do not drop your child off at the meet if they are not competing. Our supervision ratio only covers the students competing. Lakeshore cannot be responsible for additional people and parents will be contacted to come pick them up.
Student Code of Conduct
With June on the horizon, we want to ensure we maintain our expectations for student behaviour. Students are responsible to the CBE Student Code of Conduct which guides our work.
BEAR Feast Fest – June 12, 2025
The BEAR Feast Fest is scheduled for June 12 from 3-7 PM at the school. The event will feature food trucks, live DJ, Spin to Win Wheel, Water Bucket Dunk Tank, and Raffle prizes totaling over $5000 including a Meta Quest 3S VR device. Please plan to join us.
Grade 9 English as an Additional Language Transition Meetings
Joane Cardinal Schubert High School is pleased to invite you families of EAL students to an upcoming Informational Session for EAL Families on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
This session is intended to assist parents of English as an Additional Language (EAL) students who are transitioning to or attending JCS in gaining a clearer understanding of high school programming, graduation pathways and requirements, and ways to support student achievement. Additionally, we will share useful tips and highlight community and school-based programs that offer additional support to newcomer and EAL families.
We are prepping for a great week and a busy June ahead. In the next update I will outline the key June dates to ensure everyone is feeling informed. I hope you have a great start to your week.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
