Hello Lakeshore Families,
The calendar flip to May means there are two months left in the school year. These months will be action-packed. Makes sure you’re keeping track of events through the weekly update and messages from your teachers. Here is what’s up for the week ahead:
Lakeshore Presents Disney’s The Little Mermaid Junior
Tickets for Lakeshore’s production of The Little Mermaid Junior went on sale last week and are going fast! The shows are slated for June 2 and 3. Parents are encouraged to get their tickets ASAP to avoid disappointment. Sales information is available HERE.
Want the Best Seats in the House? Volunteer!
Any parents who commit to volunteering at an upcoming bingo will be entered into a draw for premium seats for our drama production and our band concert on June 19. To enter, email lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com with the subject line “Volunteer Draw”. Multiple family members equals multiple entries.
Meat Fundraiser Continues
With BBQ season officially here, parents are encouraged to participate in our fundraiser by purchasing a box of meat. Ordering is simple: 1) visit www.curbsidecuts.ca, 2) fill your cart, 3) at checkout use the promo code, which is your child’s teacher plus grade (ex. Polsky8) where discounts of $25 / box will be applied.
Bus Driver Appreciation Day – Monday
Monday, May 5 is Bus Driver Appreciation Day. If your child rides a yellow bus or city bus to school, encourage them to show their driver a little extra care and attention. They do a great job of getting our students to school each day.
Bears Athletics
Track and Field
This year Lakeshore's Track and field meet will be on Wednesday June 4th. In previous years, Lakeshore has taken up to 135 students in grades 6-9 to compete. While the track team will not be decided until Mid-May, we will need 5-6 parent volunteers to attend the track meet with the coaches and athletes. If you are interested in a volunteering for the track meet and have a volunteer clearance completed, please contact Mrs. Clark at agclark@cbe.ab.ca. Volunteers will need to attend the full meet from 8:45am- approx. 3:00pm. Volunteers are welcome to use their own method of transportation to Foothills athletic field.
Lakeshore Well-Being Ambassadors on CBC News
Shout out to our school Well-Being Ambassadors who were featured on CBC news last week. The article is viewable HERE. The team has been focusing on efforts to show and recognize care and respect at Lakeshore and the data seems to reflect their efforts. In comparison of student survey data from last year to this year, there is double-digit percentage improvements to the questions “I feel included at school”, “I am proud of my school”, and “my school makes and effort to reduce bullying”. We know we still have work to do, but these results are very encouraging.
Mental Health Week / Hats on For Mental Health
Mental Health Week runs from May 5-11 and Lakeshore will be participating in Hats on For Mental Health on Wednesday. All students are encouraged to wear a hat. As we share positive results for well-being at Lakeshore, there are still some noticeable areas for attention. Student survey results show that students feel they don’t have a healthy balance of screen time, nor do they talk to an adult about their well-being. As we consider the relationship between physical and mental health, we encourage our parents to have an open conversation with your tweens and teens this week.
Thanks for reading and have a great week!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
