Hello Lakeshore Families,
Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable Fall Break and you were able take time to honour Remembrance Day. Here are your updates for remainder of the short week ahead:
Upcoming Conferences – November 27 / 28
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 27 (evening) and Friday, November 28 (morning). A separate email with booking instructions will come your way in the days ahead.
Morning Drop Off Procedures
As the weather changes, parents are asked to be mindful of morning drop off procedures. The area directly in front of the school is for quick drop off only (think military precision) and there is no waiting in the area. Please observe and be kind if you’re asked to move along.
Dress for the Weather
We all know that jacket-phobia is a real phenomenon for teens. If you’re able, please try to convince your teen to dress for the weather as we prepare to welcome winter. Snow and temperatures below freezing are in the forecast.
Families in Need
As we enter mid-November, many families are planning for the winter holidays, and some are finding themselves in need. If your family is in need of winter clothing, food, or toys for gifts, please connect with Ms. Hopkins (mnhopkins@cbe.ab.ca) and/or Ms. Nimmo (sknimmo@cbe.ab.ca) in our Student Services team. If you are also in a position to help another Lakeshore family, please connect with our team as well. Thank you!
Big T’s No Kids Go Hungry Program
Big T’s BBQ restaurant in Mahogany has launched their No Kids Go Hungry Program, offering free food and a drink for any students needing a lunch. If your child is in Grade 7-9 and may need assistance, please send them over to Big T’s for a complementary lunch. Thanks to our community support for our students.
School Council Meeting – Wednesday, November 19
We are thankful to the many parents who have reached out looking to support our teachers and school community over recent weeks. A great way to get involved is to attend a School Council meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19 at 6:00 PM at the school. All Lakeshore parents are invited to attend.
Bears Athletics
Soccer
Reminder that all players need to get their uniforms back the coaches as soon as possible. The Boys soccer team will have the season celebration on Monday Nov 17 after school.
Basketball
All basketball team members received a new season schedule on Friday. This schedule lists all the games, locations, and times for the remainder of the season. If a player is unable to make a game or even a practice, please make sure to reach out the coach as soon as possible. Basketball fees have also been recalculated to reflect the changes to the season, including no opportunities for tournaments and decreased referee costs. The fees will be updated on PowerSchool this week. If parents had already paid the fees in full, a credit will be added to your account for future school fees.
Wrestling
There will be an information meeting Thursday (Nov 13), at the start of lunch for all interested students. The wrestling season this year was scheduled to run from Oct 14- Dec 12, which is different from previous years to avoid losing momentum over the Winter Break. With the start of the season being delayed, some modifications were made system wide to ensure student safety. This season the only competition will be the divisional meet on Dec 10, during the school day. This gives wrestlers 3 full weeks of training.
We are thankful for the efforts of our teacher and community coaches who help us maintain a quality athletics program at our school through their volunteer commitments.
Hot Lunch Options
Lakeshore continues to offer direct-to-school lunches for students and families which can be more useful during the colder months. Options for the week of November 17 include Subway, Taco Time, Donair Grill and Popeyes and orders can be placed HERE. Pizza-on-Demand sales continue Wednesdays at the Snack Shack for $5.
We look forward to seeing our students tomorrow. The next update will come your way on Sunday.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
