Hello Lakeshore Families,
I hope that everyone is enjoying a wonderful weekend. We’ve been lucky with the weather, but it appears winter is coming! Colder temperatures this week should bring some teen winter wear out of hibernation. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:
Conferences Thursday and Friday
Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with families on Thursday evening and Friday morning. Please book your conference via your MyCBE / PowerSchool account in the “My Conferences” option. Bookings will close on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. We also invite all families to book times with your child’s PE / Health and Complementary Course teachers. See you this week!
No Classes for Students on Friday
Friday, November 28 is a scheduled CBE non-instructional day which Lakeshore is utilizing for conferences. There are no classes on Friday.
Course Fees Now Posted
Semester one fees for complementary courses are now online and we ask families to complete payment on your MyCBE / PowerSchool account.
Addressing Late Arrivals
Parents, we need your help in ensuring your child arrives on time for school. Each morning, our office staff are processing 50-80 late arrivals which is significantly impacting their workflow and school operations. Our school doors open at 8:00 AM, a full 10 minutes before students are expected to be in their seats and ready for learning. We anticipate that there will be more drop offs as the weather turns, so please discuss routines and plan to be at school on time. Thank you, and we appreciate the support.
School Readiness
In conjunction with being on time is the need for our students to arrive to Lakeshore “school ready”. Readiness encompasses showing up rested, nourished, prepared with the materials needed for learning, and with a positive, respectful attitude.
Council Volunteering Has Privileges!
Our School Council is always looking for Bingo volunteers. Anyone who volunteers is eligible for upgraded seats for our school band and drama performances. If you’re interested and available, please email lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com to connect with our coordinator.
Opt In for Messaging
If you are not receiving messages from the school, it’s possible you have not opted in for messages. Please sign in HERE.
Bears Athletics
Wrestling
Practices continue this week with boys on Monday/ Wednesday and girls on Tuesday/ Thursday. Please remember that with such a short season is it very important students attend practices. Missed practices could result in a student not being eligible to attend the only wrestling meet on December 10th.
Basketball
Fees have been adjusted on PowerSchool to reflect the shorter season. We ask that parents please log in and ensure fees are paid before the end of the season.
Lakeshore Drama
Auditions for Beauty and the Beast begin this week with sign-ups outside the drama room. Please bring your form to the audition. Students interested in being part of the crew please drop off forms to Ms. Cooper. We are also actively recruiting parent volunteers to assist with the production in a variety of roles so please indicate on your child’s form if you are able to help.
Lakeshore in the Community
During the school day, it’s possible that our students will be out and about in the community. During school hours we have many walking field trips and our PE / Health classes participate in community walks where, under teacher supervision, the class may choose to access local area parks and playgrounds. It is the expectation that our students will interact with members of the community, of all ages, in kind and respectful ways. This expectation extends to our grade 7-9 students during the unsupervised lunchtime block. Helping our students navigate these opportunities is part of how we teach them to be respectful, contributing members to the community of which they are part of. Thank you for supporting our students when we are away from our building.
Lost Not Found Reset Coming
If your kiddo is missing some clothing or a water bottle there is a good chance its in our Lost Not Found. The pile is growing and reaching unmanageable status. Please have them check in ASAP. As a point of information to all families, the Lost Not Found is reset regularly. Unclaimed items are donated or recycled at points throughout the year, and the next purge date is this Friday after conferences. School-wide announcements will be made and teacher reminders will be provided.
Hot Lunch Options
Selections for the week of December 1st include Subway, A+W, Donair Grill and Popeye’s. Orders can be placed HERE and the hot lunch calendar has been set into 2026 in case you want to plan ahead. Pizza sales continue on Wednesdays for $5 cash or tap.
That’s all the updates for this week. We look forward to seeing visiting families on Thursday night and others online on Friday.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
