Hello Lakeshore Families,

Welcome to November and our “fall back” time change. As we approach Fall Break, we have a busy week ahead at Lakeshore. Here is the information you need to know:

Fall Break Dates
Thursday, November 7th will be the last day of classes for students before the Fall Break. There are no classes on November 8 through November 13 with students set to return to Lakeshore on Thursday, November 14th.

Remembrance Day Assembly
Our annual Remembrance Day Assembly will take place on Thursday morning. Thank you to all our families who participated in the Lakeshore Rembers project. We had almost 60 family veterans recognized, and these family members will be on display in The Den for the week and will be a big feature in our assembly. All students will be provided with a poppy and we ask that families support our veterans and community in a couple of different ways…

Poppy Fund
Cash donations for the poppy fund will be accepted in the office throughout the week. Please feel free to send your child with a cash donation.

Calgary Food Bank
In conjunction with Remembrance Day, Lakeshore’s Student Council is currently running a Food Drive for the Calgary Food Bank, which is currently struggling to keep up with the number of families in need. Please send non-perishable food items with your child any time this month! Timbits will be awarded to the two classes with the most donations. For a list of the Calgary Food Bank’s requested items, please visit HERE.

BEAR Awards
Our BEAR Award recipients for October will be recognized on Monday morning. In October, our staff focused our attention on identifying students who exemplify Excellence. Congratulations to all our amazing students and the proud parents. An Instagram post featuring all those recognized be added or our @LakeshoreCBE account on Monday.

Get SET Homework Club
Students in Grades 7-9 are invited to participate in the Get SET homework club on Tuesdays during the lunch period. Three staff members will be on-hand to help students with homework and offer extra support. Club information is available HERE.

BEARS Athletics
Wrestling
Wrestling season is starting. This is the final no cut team offered at Lakeshore this year. All students are welcome but are asked to make a commitment to attending practices until the end of January. Grade 6/7 boys will practice every Mon & Wed. All girls and Grade 8/9 boys will practice on Tues & Thurs. Practices run from 3-4:15pm in the sports performance room upstairs.

Soccer
Soccer season is officially over. The girls’ soccer team brought home the championship. This is the first time Lakeshore has won the soccer title and we are so proud of the girls. The boys also had an amazing season but after being undefeated in the regular season they had a heart breaking 0-1 loss in the finals to DGS. Congratulations and thanks to all of our soccer athletes and families.

Prospects Basketball
Prospect basketball wrapped up their season this week with a big tournament against other schools. These grade 6/7 students had been practicing twice a week since early September. We entered one girls’ team and two boys teams into the tournament. Our girls team finished in first, and the boys’ teams finished in first and third. The basketball program at Lakeshore looks very bright.

Bingo Volunteers Needed
Our next Bingo event will be November 30th and a full slate of volunteers is needed. Dinner is provided to volunteers. If you are able and interested, please register to help HERE or contact our School Council at lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com.

November Conferences - Save The Date
Our November parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for the evening of Thursday, November 28 (in-person meetings) and morning of Friday, November 29 (online or in-person). Booking information will be sent out later in the month.
