Hello Lakeshore Families,

I hope you are enjoying the day with family and enjoying the outdoors as we honour National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Here are your updates for the week:

Lakeshore Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
Our school understands that a commitment to Truth and Reconciliation is about more than just one day. Indigenous connections and condensations are fused into teaching and learning throughout the year and our annual commitment is viewable HERE. With that said, we are proud that our students turned out in record numbers on Thursday to show their support for Orange Shirt Day. The Lakeshore Grade 8s were also proud to be part of a special display at the South Health Hospital. Thank you for supporting our ongoing efforts.

Terry Fox Run Day – October 4, 2024
This Friday is our annual Terry Fox Run and Lakeshore students will be running and walking throughout Auburn Bay in honour of Terry. Teachers are offering incentives (Pie-a-teacher-in-the-Face, honourary Principal, and more). Donations will be collected online (no cash donations can be collected at the school), and we are just under 10% of our way to our goal. Please log into our Lakeshore Terry Fox Run page to donate and help us reach our target. The event will fall under the walking field trip provision.

BEAR Awards for September
Forty-five students were identified by staff members to receive a September BEAR Award for Bravery. Students will receive recognition this week, and parents will be notified by email. Congratulations to all recipients!

Perogy and Sausage Fundraiser
Our School Council has brought back our popular Perogy and Sausage fundraiser. Stock your freezer for quick and delicious meals. Visit the site here: https://gourmetperogies.com/seller-login/515 and enter the campaign code lakeshorebears24. Fundraising dollars will be used to support the purchase of additional technology for student and classroom use.

Support through Volunteering!
Don’t like perogies or sausages, but still want to help the school? Our School Council is always in need to volunteers for our ongoing fundraisers and fun-raisers. If you may be able to help out from time to time (even if it is only once), please email lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com.

Bears Athletics
Cross Country Wrap-Up
The cross-country team finished their season with the last race on Monday last week. We had the largest number of total runners for all CBE schools and managed to win four championship banners: Junior Boys (grade 7), Aggregate Boys, Intermediate Girls (grade 8), and the Grand Race total. In addition to our wins, five other teams managed top 3 finishes. All members of the team are invited to celebrate their accomplishments on Thursday Oct 3, from 3:00- 3:45pm in the aux gym. Thank you to all athletes and parents for such an amazing season!

Girls Developmental Basketball (Prospects)
There is still some space on the girls developmental basketball team for student in grade 6 & 7 who want to further develop their skills. This is a safe, low risk environment with excellent coaches and low coach to player ration to give girls the further confidence and skill. The practices are Tuesday after school from 3- 4:15 and Thursday mornings at 7:30am. This club will run until Friday Nov 1. Please direct any questions to Mrs. Clark, agclark@cbe.ab.ca.

Athletic Fees
If your Lakeshore student is participating on the cross country, soccer or basketball team their fees have been added to PowerSchool accounts and need to be paid as soon as possible. Warmup shirt and personalization costs have recently been added for the soccer and basketball teams as well.

Hot Lunch Options
Offerings for the week of October 7 include Edo, A+W, Donair Grill and Spolumbos. Place your orders at Healthy Hunger. Pizza Wednesdays continue with individual slices for sale for $5.

Just a reminder that our photo day will be next week on Wednesday, October 9.

Have a great start to your week and thanks for being great Mama and Papa Bears!

Kind Regards,
