Hello Lakeshore Families,
Welcome back and here we go with the new school year. Our staff are looking forward to seeing our students tomorrow. We know emotions are high, and we’re ready to create a friendly learning environment for all our students. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:
New School Hours
Reminder, our new school hours are 8:10 AM – 2:40 PM. We will need parent support to help our students adjust to an earlier start time for on time arrival. Our doors will open each morning at 8:00 AM. Our full hours can be found HERE. Our instructional calendar is HERE.
No Changes to Class Lists / Courses
As posted multiple times, there will be no changes to homeroom placements or complementary course schedules. Students in grades 7-9 will receive their full course list on the first day of school.
Welcoming New Teachers and Staff
Our staff roster is HERE. Please join me in welcoming the following staff members:
· Katie Edelman will be teaching grade 8 Math / Science in place of Ms. Ruzycki who welcomed her first baby this summer.
· Peyton Young is joining the grade 7 Humanities team while Ms. Charney continues her parental leave.
· Hilary Juswishyn will be teaching grade 6 Humanities until Ms. Colpitts is ready to return from her parental leave.
· Kari Zurbriggen will be assisting in the office, and Shannon Roen will be joining us as a lunchroom assistant.
Attendance Notifications
Parents are asked to email any attendance notes to lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca. Please do not email to teachers.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Students are encouraged to walk or ride to school whenever possible. We have plenty of bike racks and scooter / skateboard lockups. If riding to school, student must lock up their items as the school is not responsible for them. Parents are asked to utilize the curbside area in front of the school on Auburn Bay Drive between Auburn Glen Heights and the handicap parking sign to facilitate drop-off. Note, this is a drop-and-go, and not a parking or waiting area. Parents can park and plan for pick-up on the east school side of Auburn Bay Drive beyond the yellow “End Playground zone” sign. Kindly do not block neighbours’ driveways and be aware of kids at all times. All areas around the school are “No U-Turn Areas” and CPS and Parking Authority will be monitoring our school area traffic.
Bussing
All students who have registered for bussing should see the route information in their student’s MyCBE account. If you are eligible for bussing and have not registered, you should do so directly through MyCBE. Bus registrations are not managed at the school level and the district department requires some lead time to process these registrations. If you have bussing related questions, please contact transportation@cbe.ab.ca.
Update Demographic Forms
Demographic forms are now available for update on your MyCBE account. This is an annual requirement and essential for our emergency procedures. Please ensure all information is accurate including home address, email addresses, phone numbers and emergency contact. All families are required to have at least one listed emergency contact.
Bears Athletics
All students interested in participating in Lakeshore Athletics need to have an Annual Authorization for Athletics Tryout Form, which can be brought in hard copy or emailed to agclark@cbe.ab.ca. We will operate in compliance with the new legislation outlined in the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act.
Please follow Lakeshore Athletics on Instagram to get timely updates.
Soccer
Girls tryouts begin Tuesday after school and boys tryouts will start on Wednesday.
Cross Country Running
All Lakeshore students, regardless of experience or ability, are encouraged to participate in cross country running. This is a NO CUT team, so everyone makes it! There will be a meeting for interested participants on Wednesday at lunchtime.
Student Health Plans
If your child has a medical condition of note, please fill out the Student Health Plan form and email back to lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca.
Annual Volunteer Form
Interested in volunteering? Please fill out the Annual Volunteer Registration Form and send back to lakeshore@cbe.aab.ca to get started.
Fees for Field Trips and Experiences
As a staff, we have been discussing fees and helping families plan accordingly. Our core teams (Humanities and Science / Math) have been asked to keep the total budget for field trips and experiences under $150 for the year. We will try to give families much advanced notices for upcoming fees.
Walking Field Trips
Many of our classes will access community areas around the school during the school day. Parents will be notified of any walking trips a minimum of 24 hours in advance. The annual notice to families is HERE.
Apparel Store OPEN
The Lakeshore apparel store is now open HERE. Get your gear now, as the store will only be open for 2 weeks.
Lunch Options
Hot lunch options for the week of September 8th include Subway, Taco Time, Donair Grill and Popeyes. Orders can be placed HERE. Pizza-on-Demand starts on Wednesday with individual servings for $5. Snack and drinks can be purchased at our Snack Shack with cash and debit / tap accepted.
Students Responsible for Tech Damage
As a reminder, we want all families to know that students are responsible for any damage to Lakeshore technology and invoices will be issued for the cost of full device replacement.
Student Code of Conduct
Over the first few days the Lakeshore teachers and admin team will be reviewing behaviour expectations, Student Code of Conduct, and CBE Progressive Discipline with all students.
BEAR Awards
Each month, our staff recognize students for their commitment to the BEAR qualities of Bravery, Excellence, Ambition, and Respect. We know our students and families look forward to this recognition and we are excited for another year of Awards.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading. The first few updates of the year are usually a bit longer than most. We appreciate all our Mama and Papa Bears for your support and for sending great students our way. See you on Tuesday morning!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
