Hello Lakeshore Families,

The new week begins with the autumnal equinox, but we are hoping for some extended summer-like weather. Here are your updates for the week ahead:

Thanks for Visiting!
We are happy to welcome everyone for our Meet-the-Teacher night last Thursday. It was great to see our students introducing their parents to their new teachers. We appreciate you making the time. If you missed the meeting but would like to reach out to your child’s teacher(s), please see our staff directory HERE.

Orange Shirt Day – Friday
Lakeshore School will be wearing Orange on Friday, September 26 and all students are encouraged to participate. We wear Orange in support of Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is scheduled on September 30. Learn more about Orange Shirt Day HERE and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation HERE (provincial site) or HERE (national site).

Reporting Absences
The preferred method of notifying the school when you child(ren) will not be attending school is emailing lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca . This ensures office staff receive the notification and adjusts the attendance accordingly in a timely manner.

No Classes September 29 / 30
There will be no classes for students on September 29 (CBE system-wide PD day) and September 30 (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation). Classes will resume on Wednesday, October 1.

Bears Athletics
All students participating on falls teams have had athletic fees added to their Power School account. We ask that parents promptly log in and pay these fees.

Cross Country
The final meet of the season on Monday at North Glenmore Park. Athletes should arrive by 4:15 to walk the course, it will be the same course as last week. This is the most important meet as the points are totaled to win the titles, so we need all runners in attendance to gain points for our team. There will be a bus available at Lakeshore to take runners to the meet, leaving Lakeshore at 3:30pm. There is NO transportation home.

The Cross Country Team wrap up celebration will be 12:10-1:00 on Friday. Runners will be provided a pizza lunch in recognition of their efforts this season.

The team yearbook photo will be taken on Tuesday in the last 20 minutes of the day (2:20). If athletes could have their cross-country shirts and make sure to be at school to be part of the photo.

Soccer
Congratulations to both the girls' and boys' soccer teams who won their season openers at home last week.

Basketball
All of the basketball coaches sent home the information packages this week. Please make sure to return these to your coaches asap. The ability to purchase a warmup shirt should also be visible on Power School, you do have to self-add this option to your cart from the "School Based Optional" tab.

Bears Athletics Spectator Policy
All parents are asked to review our athletics spectator policy, which is posted on our website HERE. Our school policy is in alignment with that of all schools in our athletics division and expectations are the same.

Terry Fox Run
Lakeshore’s Terry Fox Run date which is scheduled for October 3. We will once again be taking donations both online (HERE) and via cash on run day. Check out this year’s Terry Fox Run video HERE – it’s tear-jerkingly inspirational!

Grade 9 Ottawa + Montreal Trip Meeting – Thursday
All Grade 9 families are invited to attend the information meeting for the Ottawa + Montreal trip scheduled for spring 2026. The meeting will take place this Thursday starting at 5:00 PM at the school. Please contact Mr. Erickson at daaerickson@cbe.ab.ca for more information.

Crossing Auburn Bay Drive
We ask that students use the crosswalk in front of the school to cross Auburn Bay Drive and avoid the crosswalk on the corner of Auburn Bay Drive and Auburn Glen Heights where possible. School admin patrols the school crosswalk and can keep traffic moving at our busy times.

Scooter and Bike Safety
Warm weather means more scooters and bikes are coming to school. We need our friends on wheels to slow down on crowded pathways and sidewalks, and they should be wearing helmets too! Shockingly, many scooters and bikes are not being locked up so please make sure you check in with your child to ensure they’re following expectations and locking up their wheels.

No More Clothing Bins
Our clothing + textile bins were removed from our school parking lot, and we will no longer be supporting this initiative. Thanks to all local families who supported us in these ways.

Hot Lunch Options
Options for October 1 and 2 are A+W and Edo which can be ordered HERE. Pizza-on-Demand is available on Wednesdays for $5.

We are looking forward to another great week at Lakeshore. Thanks for checking in on this week’s update.

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
