Hello Lakeshore Families,
It’s been a beautiful autumn weekend, and I hope it’s been an enjoyable one for everyone. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:
No School for Students Monday / Tuesday
There are no classes for students on Monday (CBE system-wide professional day) or Tuesday (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation). Classes will resume on Wednesday, October 1 and we look forward to seeing our students then.
Terry Fox Run – Friday
Friday, October 3 will be Lakeshore’s Terry Fox Run. Please make your donations HERE, or have your child bring in a cash donation on Friday. If you see our students in the community, please give us a supportive honk or wave! Our teachers have also offered several fun incentives to students if we meet our fundraising goal.
Demographic Forms Due ASAP
We still have a considerable number of families who have not updated their yearly forms. This is all done online via your MyCBE account and if an annual requirement – even if there are no changes. We ask that all families complete this before Friday.
Bus Delays
Parents of bus students can expect notices when there are delays beyond 10 minutes. Proactively, you can check on bus status using the My School Bus Monitor site. At the school level, we pay attention to notices, and we will hold attendance for bus students in the event of a delay.
Bears Athletics
All families of student athletes are reminded to log into their MyCBE accounts and pay team fees for the year.
Soccer
The Bears have two home games this week with the girls on Wednesday and boys on Thursday. Action starts at 4:30 on the field between Lakeshore and Prince of Peace and all students and families are invited to cheer on our athletes.
Basketball
The senior girls host their first action on Thursday starting at 4:30 PM. Student fans are welcome to attend the first game without a parent. Please come and cheer on the Bears.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Tuesday, September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Lakeshore made our school commitment to Truth and Reconciliation last spring. As part of our commitment, we wanted to become more informed about what significance the land in our modern-day communities of Auburn Bay and Mahogany held for Indigenous peoples. Here are some connections:
Before European settlement, our current communities were part of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut'ina, and the Stony Nakoda peoples. The area was open prairie and wetlands, used for:
· Seasonal camps and travel corridors—The rolling prairie and wetlands around south Calgary were part of buffalo hunting grounds, berry picking areas, and camp sites during seasonal migrations. Trails used by Indigenous peoples later influenced wagon and road routes in this region.
· Hunting grounds—Bison, pronghorn, deer, and smaller game were common in the open grasslands. Groups would come through the area during communal buffalo hunts, which were central to their way of life.
· Plant harvesting-- Wetland and prairie plants (like sweetgrass, sage, wild turnip, and berries) were gathered for food, medicine, and ceremony.
· Ceremonial and cultural use-- The broader prairie landscape was spiritually significant, with certain areas used for vision quests, ceremonies, and other cultural practices.
Thanks for checking in and have a great week!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
