Hello Lakeshore Families,

Week one is successfully in the books, and we were so happy to have our students back. The transition to start the year appears to be going smoothly and I hope your child came home happy and excited. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:

Complete School Year Forms
Please log into your child’s MyCBE account and update all outstanding forms for the school year. These include demographic forms. All Grade 6 families who have children staying at Lakeshore for lunch may also register for the lunch program.

Yellow School Bus Service
If you require bus service, but have not registered, please do. This can also be done through your MyCBE account. Once you have completed your registration, please email your confirmation to lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca as we can get your child on the bus directly while the application is in process.

Bingo Volunteers Needed
Our School Council desperately needs volunteers for our first bingo on Sept 21. For those willing to donate 1 shift of their time we will thank you with VIP seating to our band concerts as well as opportunities to win VIP seating to our drama performances. Please click on the link HERE to sign up below to reserve your spot! You can also email the council at lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com for more information.

School Council Meeting – September 17
Our first School Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17 starting at 6 PM in our school learning commons. All parents are welcome to attend, and we hope to see some new and retuning faces.

Monitoring Outdoor Air Quality
Our school admin team keeps on eye on air quality before making decisions about outdoor activity. The Calgary Board of Education also sends schools regular updates. The district message about monitoring is HERE. It is possible that different parts of our large city experience different weather at different times. If your child has a medical condition which is impacted by outdoor air quality, please complete the Student Health Plan form and email it back to lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca.

Last Week for Apparel Sales
Avoid disappointment and get your Bear Wear now! This is the final week for our online store, which will be the last chance to get Bear apparel in 2025. Check out the store HERE. Anticipated delivery is at end September.

Parent Voice – Individual Program Plans
Parents of students with Individual Program Plans are invited to complete the Parent Voice survey which has or will be emailed to you. Responses are due by end-day on Friday. If you have not received this survey, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

Bears Athletics
The PE department is still accepting annual tryout forms. Completed forms can be emailed to Mrs. Clark- agclark@cbe.ab.ca or a physical copy can be dropped off in the PE office.

Soccer
Congratulations to all the students that made the girls soccer team. Thank you to the many girls that showed bravery by attending tryouts on the first day. Selected players need to attend a lunch meeting on Monday in Mrs. Peltier's room. The first set of cuts have been made for the boy's soccer team but one more tryout will be required to name the official roster. The final tryout will be Monday Sept 8th.

Cross Country
The first meet of the season is this Thursday, Sept 11 at Stanley Park.  Anyone wanting to participate needs to bring in their completed permission forms to Ms. Barva as soon as possible. This is a no cut team, anyone interested in representing Lakeshore at the meet is welcome to join. The next team practice is on Monday Sept 8, after school. If runners are unable to make practices at school, they should be training in their own time.

Basketball
Basketball tryouts start next week. Full schedules have been posted on Instagram @lakeshoreathletics

Sr. Girls: Monday and Tuesday- 2:40- 4:15
Sr. Boys: Tuesday and Wednesday- 7:00am

*** Grade 6 boys interested in playing school basketball must attend an ID session on Monday Sept 8, 7:00am. Successful players will be notified if they are invited to the Jr. boys tryouts. This is done due to sheer volume of interest at this level.

Grade 6-7 players that are not chosen for a basketball team have the ability to join our developmental teams which will start the week of Sept 15. More information to be posted on the Lakeshore Athletics Instagram account.

Hot Lunch Options
Choices for the week of September 15 include Subway, A+W, Via Cibo, and Edo. Place your orders HERE. Pizza-on-Demand continues on Wednesdays, and our snack shack is open Mon – Thurs for tap or cash purchase of small $1 or $2 items.

That’s the update for this week. Have a super start to your week!
