Well, it looks like summer is continuing into September, and hopefully you are all enjoying the sunny weekend. Here are your updates for the week:
Meet the Teacher Night – September 19
Mark your calendars as our first meeting opportunity will take place on September 19 with an Open House format from 4-7 PM. Your child’s teachers will reach out to you to communicate the grade-specific plans for the evening.
Last Call for Back-to-School Lakeshore Apparel
The online apparel store will close on Tuesday. Place your orders HERE for delivery at end-September.
Bears Athletics
Cross Country Running
The first race is this Wednesday at Stanley Park. Students will be receiving their team shirts on Tuesday or Wednesday at school during lunch hour. Due to the overwhelming amount of student participation, we have ordered a second set of shirts and priority on the first run will be for students who do not already have a Lakeshore shirt. Athletes should be on-site at 4:15 PM and prepared for all weather. Look for the Lakeshore sign and check in with coaches on arrival. Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the venue. Please contact Ms. Barva at kjbarva@cbe.ab.ca with any questions.
Basketball
Tryouts for all our senior and junior teams start this week. A detailed schedule has been posted on the Athletics Instagram page Athletes need to be in active clothing. Coaches may need to write ID numbers on legs, so shorts are preferred. We are expecting a large turnout for junior boys therefore these tryouts have been split. The grade 6 boys will have their own 2 tryouts and successful participants will then be invited to join the grade 7-8's at the junior boys' tryouts.
Lakeshore also runs a basketball developmental program called Prospects. Any grade 6 or 7 student that does not make the junior team can participate in this program up to 24 participants. There will be a separate program for boys and girls. More information about this program will be shared once basketball tryouts are completed.
Soccer
Final team selections have been made and practices will continue this week. Thanks to all of those who tried out for our teams.
Orange Shirt Day – September 26
Lakeshore will be participating in Orange Shirt Day on September 26 and all students are encouraged to wear an orange on this day. Note, we will arrange for any orders of Lakeshore apparel orange shirts to be delivered in time for our September 26 Orange Shirt Day.
Terry Fox Run – October 4
Our school-wide Terry Fox run day will be on October 4th. More details to come, but our school donation page is HERE
Hot Lunch Options
Options for the week of September 16 include Subway, Mary Brown’s, Avi’s and Taco Time. Orders can be placed via Healthy Hunger
