Update to Parents - Week of February 5, 2024

Hello Lakeshore Families,

Our first week of Semester 2 got us off to a great start and we are primed and ready for a run toward Spring. Here are your current weekly updates:

Next Year Registration Status for Current Students

As a reminder to all current in-district and in-boundary Lakeshore families, students who are currently in attendance in grades 6-8 are automatically registered at our school for next year. As a school in lottery status, we want to make sure we have as many open spots as possible for interested families. So, if your family is planning to move to another school or community for next year, we ask that you please email lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca with your plans. Thank you.

Crush for a Crush

Our Student Council will once again be hosting their Valentine’s Day Crush for a Crush event. Students are welcome to purchase their Crush for someone (or themselves) with sales taking place from Monday – Wednesday this week in The Den at lunchtime. Each Crush is $2 (cash only) with proceeds going to Student Council Improvement Initiatives. Purchases will be delivered to recipients on Wednesday, February 14.

Spirit Week – February 12-14

Our Student Council has also arranged for another Spirit Week on Feb. 12-14:

·      Monday, February 12 – Dress like a Senior (Citizen) Day

·      Tuesday, February 13 – Twin / Triplet Day

·      Wednesday, February 14 – Red vs. Pink Day – wear your favourite. Which will win?

Pizza-On-Demand!

Our Snack Shack is trialing pizza-on-demand on Thursday at lunch. Hot Papa John’s individual cheese and pepperoni slices will be available at the Snack Shack for $4.50 (same pricing as Healthy Hunger) with cash and tap/debit accepted. If it is a popular addition, we may look at adding some additional dates or a regular schedule.

Grade 6s, Interested in Late French Immersion?

For any Lakeshore Grade 6 who may be interested in Late French Immersion (Grade 7 entry point), David Thompson School will be hosting their Open House on Thursday, February 8th starting at 6:30 PM. More information on that event is HERE.

With the high interest in volleyball this year, Lakeshore is running a volleyball club just for grade 6 students. They will practice every Monday morning at 7:30am starting this Monday February 5. No need to sign up, just show up if interested. There is a commitment involved though as coaches will be progressing through skill development. Coaches will be Mr. Koshin  (cdkoshin@cbe.ab.ca) and Mr. Clowes (bdclowes@cbe.ab.ca).
