Update to Parents - Week of January 29, 2024

Hello Lakeshore Families,

Thanks to everyone who came out to our Complementary Course Showcase and Band Concert last Thursday. It was an extortionary event for our school which honoured the hard work of our students. There were many proud parents in attendance, and equally proud students. We are in the last couple days of Semester 1 and getting ready to move into Semester 2 on Wednesday.

Here are your updates for the week ahead:

Report Cards Available Tuesday

As in previous years, paper copies of report cards are no longer printed and provided. Semester 1 report cards will be available for viewing in your MyCBE / PowerSchool Account on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. If you are having trouble accessing your child’s report card, you can check out the quick tutorial video HERE.

Semester Change Wednesday

Wednesday, January 31 will be the first day of Semester 2. Students in grades 7-9 will be moving into their new complementary courses. Your child can review their second semester courses on their MyCBE / PowerSchool Account. Note that there will not be able to accommodate course change requests. Each of our complementary courses offer unique opportunities to students, and our experience shows that they quickly adapt to new learning with the support of their teachers and peers.

What Happens on Fridays?

Fridays are regular, mandatory school days at Lakeshore and all CBE Schools. Our Fridays work on a rotating schedule so all student attends each of their core classes and one of their PE or complementary courses. As the week draws to a close, there is a natural inclination to conclude units of study. Fridays are often the days where teachers administer summative assessments or directly oversee assignment completion. In many ways, Fridays can be the most significant day of the week in respect to student achievement.

2024 – 2025 Registrations

Information related to next-year registration can be found in a previous weekly update, which is available HERE.

PE / Heath Update

A Messenger was sent home today (Sunday) regarding the human sexuality education unit. This unit will be starting for students in grade 7-9 between Feb 8 and March 13. The email also contained the exemption form for families who may not want their student to participate in all or some of the unit. This form only needs to be returned if you are exempting your student. If no form is returned before the beginning of the unit, consent is implied. Further questions regarding this unit of study should be directed to Mrs. Clark at agclark@cbe.ab.ca.

Bears Athletics

Good Luck to our Wrestling Team who go to divisional championships on Wednesday this week. This is considered a full day field trip so all participants need to be at school on time Wednesday morning to catch the team bus.

Healthy Hunger

Lunch options for the week of February 5 include Opa, Subway, Swiss Chalet and Avi’s Kabob and Schwarma. Order at www.healthyhunger.ca.

Have a wonderful week!
