Hello Lakeshore Families,

We have not entered the month of May, and the penultimate month of the school year is underway. As always, there are a lot of things happening during these months and I’ll do my best to keep you informed here and through regular updates.

Bus Driver Appreciation Day - Monday
If your child is a bus student, please remind them that Monday, May 4 is Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Hopefully we can all show our drivers some kindness as we are very lucky to have so many great people who get our kids to school safely each day. Thank you!

April BEAR Awards
Students nominated for demonstrating Excellence will be recognized early this week. Once announced, check out Lakeshore Instagram to see our recipients.

March / April Attendance Reports
This week, attendance reports will go home to parents this week for students who have missed 20%+ of scheduled classes.

Beauty and the Beast Jr. Tickets Going Home This Week
Exciting news! Tickets that have been purchased to date will be sorted and sent home with students this week! Please watch for them by the end of the day on Thursday. If you have not yet purchased tickets, there are still a few seats available for each performance. Be sure to grab yours soon before they sell out, we would love to have a full audience cheering on our students! If you need tickets, please refer to the previous weekly update HERE.

Yearbook Orders – One Week Left!
There is only one week left to order your 2025-2026 Lakeshore yearbook. Time and quantities are going fast. Get yours now! Orders can be placed HERE. If you do not order, you will not get a yearbook.

Bears Athletics
Badminton
Good luck to the grade 9 badminton team at their division finals this week. Both grade 6 & 8 badminton teams host schools at Lakeshore this week for a practice tournament. A reminder that players are expected to wear their team badminton shirts for these matches. Badminton fees are now due. A reminder to please log onto your PowerSchool account and pay these as soon as possible.

Football
Flag football practice continues this week, Junior and Senior team members all practice together every Tuesday and Thursday after school.

Parent Coaches Needed
We have started to look at coaches for next year and have a few gaps that need to be filled in order to continue to offer the full complement of teams, especially basketball. If parents have knowledge and experience in any sport we offer at Lakeshore and you have the ability to attend practices either before school and/or after, we ask you reach out to our Athletics director, Mrs. Ashley Clark at agclark@cbe.ab.ca. We would love to add you to our Bears coaching staff.

Pickleball Club!
We are pleased to offer a Pickleball Club for interested students. Local coach, Justin Butler, will be working with students to get them on the court and ready for summer play. Club times will be 2:40 – 4:15 PM on May 19, 21, 26, 28, and June 2. No equipment or experience is required, but club participants must have athletic clothing and footwear. An expression of interest meeting will take place this Monday (May 4) at lunch. Please encourage your child to join. Twenty students will be selected with priority to students not set to participate on the Bears track team as the meet is on June 2.

Learn to Play Pickleball Parent Event
If you are a Lakeshore parent who has been looking to get in on Pickleball, you’re invited to a learn to play event with coach Justin Bulter on June 2 at 6:00 PM at the school. No equipment or experience is required, but participants must have athletic clothing and footwear. Grab your spouse, partner, and/or friend and RSVP to itfero@cbe.ab.ca to reserve a spot.

Nope to Water Pistol Games
There is a teen trend to participate in a water pistol game called “senior assassin” during the concluding summer-like weeks of the school year. While fun-natured, it is a distraction to learning. Students can certainly bring their accessories to school to use after dismissal, but they cannot be out during the school day.

Hot Lunch Options
Options for the week of May 11 include Subway, Chick-fil-A, Opa, and Canadian Brewhouse. Place your orders HERE.

That’s all for this week and for your Star Wars geeks, May the Fourth be with you.

Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
