Hello Lakeshore Families,
Welcome to November and hopefully everyone had a Happy Halloween. Our school dance last Friday was a hit with lots of smiles and costumes. Here are your updates for the week ahead:
No Time Change
Please note that this weekend marks daylight savings for parts of the continent. As we know, Alberta is no longer observing this time change, but this may impact calendars and digital communications.
Picture Retakes – Wednesday
Our photo retake day will be Wednesday, November 4. All students who missed our photo day will have their pictures done. If you would like to ensure we have your child scheduled for a photo retake, please email lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca with “Photo Retake Request” in the subject line.
Inviting Uniformed Participants for Remembrance Day
Students who participate in Cadets, Navy League, Scouts, or Guides are encouraged to wear their uniforms on November 10 for our Remembrance Day assembly. A student-led flag presentation and wreath laying will be highlighted. If you child is part of one of these organizations, please send an email to lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca so we can ensure your child is included in planning.
Casino Volunteers Urgently Needed
Our School Council Fundraising Committee is seeking a few more volunteers for our casino scheduled for November 16 and 17. This includes emergency back up positions. Casino volunteers are provided with a complementary Lakeshore t-shirt and meal. It’s a great way to meet other school parents while contributing to our fundraising efforts. Please check out the online sign-up HERE. Thank you!
Drama Production Meetings
Lakeshore Drama is preparing for this year’s production of High School Musical. Students interested in auditioning for the Cast are asked to come to a meeting on Tuesday, November 3 at lunch. Students interested in Crew positions are invited to a meeting on Thursday, November 5. Meetings will take place at lunch. If your child has other club commitments on these days they are asked to check in with their club teacher and/or our drama lead, Ms. Beazer.
Bears Athletics
Soccer
Boys soccer celebration is Wednesday Nov 4th after school. ALL Soccer players are asked to return their jerseys to the coaches ASAP!
Basketball
Congratulations to our Senior Boys and Senior Girls teams for a great tournament at Simon Fraser School last week. The Boys captured the tournament title with a victory over West Ridge and the Girls narrowly lost the final game in a tight contest with FE Osborne School. Thanks to all parents and students who attended our home games last week to cheer on the teams.
Wrestling
This week is the first wrestling tournament at Mountain Park School. Athletes need to make sure to attend practices this week and hand in their permission forms. Wrestling shirts will be delivered to athletes Mon/ Tues and must be worn to the tournament. If you missed ordering a shirt, please contact the coaches as we have some extra. Please remember that any athlete that will NOT be able to attend the wrestling tournament this week needs to email Mr. Clowes at bdclowes@cbe.ab.ca by Wednesday. The school is charged by the athlete so if we register them, parents will have to pay the $20 competition fee regardless of attendance.
Fall Break Approaching
There will be no classes for students on November 11 (Remembrance Day), and November 12 and 13 (Fall Break). Students will return to Lakeshore on Monday, November 16.
Save the Date – November Conferences
November Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on the late afternoon / evening of Thursday, November 26 (in-person) and the morning of Friday, November 27 (online). Booking details will come your way in the days ahead.
Grade 9s – Wise Wood IB Program Open House
If your child is in Grade 9 and would like to consider the International Baccalaureate Program at Henry Wise Wood School you are encouraged to attend their open house on November 18 starting at 7:00 PM in their school gymnasium.
Hot Lunch Options
Selections for the week of November 9 include Opa, Subway, and Kernels. Orders can be placed HERE. Pizza Wednesdays continue with no pre-order required.
Thankfully, it looks like the weather will be returning to more normal fall-like temperatures this week. Have a great week and Go Bears!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
