Update to Parents - Week of November 6, 2023
Hello Lakeshore Families,
It’s been a wonderful Sunday for a “fall back” hour and hopefully everyone is making the most of it. Here are your updates for the week ahead:
Fall Break
This is a 3-day week for students, with Fall Break starting on November 9th and carrying through the beginning of next week. Students will be back at school on Wednesday, November 15.
Remembrance Day
Our Remembrance Day assembly will take place on Wednesday, November 8th. Students who can are encouraged to wear Guide, Scout, or Service uniforms. If you feel like a military-based service may be emotionally impactful on your child, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to discuss.
Poppy Fund / Veteran’s Food Bank
All students will be provided with a Poppy for our Remembrance Day assembly and students are encouraged to bring in a small monetary donation for the Poppy Fund. Alternatively, or in addition to a donation, students can bring in a non-perishable food items for the Veteran’s Food Bank. Food Bank donations will carry on throughout the month of November.
It’s Book Fair Week!
The Scholastic Book Fair is on this week at Lakeshore. Students are free to make purchases on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and cash, card and Apple Pay options are available.
Social Media & Online Safety Presentation
All Lakeshore students and parents are strongly encouraged to join CPS YouthLink program for an in-person presentation on Wednesday, November 15 at 6:30 PM at the school. Social Media and Online Safety continue to present families with unique challenges. Please RSVP to lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com if you would like to attend.
Perogy and Sausage Fundraiser
The School Council / Fundraising Association Prairie Gourmet Perogy and Sausage fundraiser is off to a great start. Visit the site HERE and use the password lakeshorebears to get started. Paper copy order information was also sent home with students. Please contact lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com with any questions.
Fundraisers Not Your Thing?
Our School Council / Fundraising Association knows that there are a lot of people who want to help, but don’t love fundraisers. If this is you, there is an alternate option to make a straight-up cash donation. The Association recommends a guideline of $50 / student, but any amount helps. If you do not require a tax receipt, you can e-transfer to lakeshoreparents.comms@gmail.com. If a tax receipt is required, you can donate through the link HERE. We are currently raising money for additional Chromebooks with a target of $45,000.
Upcoming Hot Lunch Schedule
Healthy Hunger options for November 15, 16 and week of November 20 include: McDonald’s, Avi’s, Stuffies, Edo, Subway and Papa John’s. Order at www.healthyhunger.ca.
Indigenous Community Connections
On November 9th, all Calgary Board of Education staff will be participating in Maatoomsii' Pookaiks (Blackfoot for Putting Children First) professional learning day. The day will be dedicated to developing and applying foundational knowledge of district Indigenous Education initiatives. We are fortunate to be supported by an outstanding CBE Indigenous Education team, who has coordinated an excellent day of learning.
Thank you, and have a great week. Lest we forget.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
