Update to Parents - Week of October 10, 2023
Hello Lakeshore Families,
Happy Thanksgiving! We hope the weekend has been full of family time and fun memories. We feel we have a lot to be thankful for at Lakeshore. Here are your updates for the week ahead:
Terry Fox Run Success!
Our first Terry Fox run at Lakeshore was a huge success! With a last-day surge in donations, we were easily able to surpass our fundraising goal of $5000. Thank you to all of our students and families who donated to the Terry Fox Foundation. We are so proud to support the legacy of Terry Fox. All of our fundraising targets were met, and we will have a big fulfillment day on Monday, October 16th.
Photo Day – October 18
Student photo day is scheduled for October 18.
Volunteering at Lakeshore
We encourage all interested parents to attain their volunteer clearance with the CBE, which allows you to volunteer as-needed at our school. The first step is to complete an annual form which you will need to bring to the office with your ID. From there, we can provide you with information on attaining your Police Information Check. The full volunteer process is laid out HERE.
Create Lakeshore Phone Contact
We are asking parents to create Lakeshore School as a contact in your phones. Our school number is 403-817-3440 and our email is lakeshore@cbe.ab.ca. We have noticed that outgoing calls are going unanswered due to unknown contact information.
Attendance Notifications
Last week, some of you may have received an attendance notice from Mr. deBoer if your child has missed 20% of school days or more. These monthly Attendance Reports are purely informational and follow directives outlined in the Education Act and CBE Regulations: Administrative Regulation 6020. Please do what you can to ensure you child attends school regularly, and on time. Every day counts.
Hot Lunch
Healthy Hunger for the week of October 16 – 19 includes Mary Brown Chicken, Subway, Taco Time and A+W. You can order at Healthy Hunger.
Next School Council Meeting Oct. 18
Our next School Council Meeting will be Wednesday, October 18 at 6:00 PM at the school.
Athletics Updates
Auburn Bay Cup
The first Auburn Bay Cup will take place on Tuesday, October 10 at 4:00 PM and will feature girls and boys teams in exhibition matches between Lakeshore and Prince of Peace. All students and families are encouraged to attend to support the friendly relationship between both schools.
Girls Soccer off to Finals
Our Girls Soccer team has earned a bye into the finals and will play for a banner on Wednesday, October 18.
Reminder – Basketball Game Spectator Policy
We have been asked by our Middle School Athletics Association to remind parents and students of our spectator policy.
That’s all the news for this week. Thank you once again for supporting our Terry Fox Run and for continuing to work in partnership with our school.
Have a wonderful week!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
