Update to Parents - Week of October 16, 2023
Hello Lakeshore Families,
Hoping everyone has had a great weekend. We are looking forward to another great week at Lakeshore. Here are your updates:
Picture Day – Wednesday
Polish up the smiles, fix up the hair, and pick out your best outfits – picture day is on Wednesday.
No Classes Friday
Friday, October 20 is a CBE System-Wide Professional Day. There are no classes for students.
School Council Meeting – Wednesday
Please plan to join us at our School Council / Fundraising Association meeting on Wednesday, October 18 starting at 6:00 PM at the school. In addition to Council / Association business, our Grade 6 Team will be presenting, and we will be reviewing the System Student Accommodation Plan for Lakeshore.
Bears are Auburn Bay Cup Champions
The Lakeshore soccer teams took home a 4-1 aggregate win over Prince of Peace in the first Auburn Bay cup competition. It was great to see so many students and families from both schools showing their pride and we look forward to many more friendly matches with the Spartans.
Terry Fox Run Day Celebration – Monday
In recognition of our community SMASHING our fundraising goal of $3000 with a total of $5024 raised, the staff are set to honour our incentives on Monday. We have a number of teachers dyeing their hair, some teachers getting dressed up in funky outfits, Ms. Ruzycki is getting a pie-in-the-face, some students are being selected for a fun lunch date, one will be the “Principal for the Day”, Ms. Appelhoff will be donating a foot of her hair, and Ms. Clowes will be getting his head shaved. Thank you to the entire Lakeshore community for making this day such a success.
Halloween Dance Coming October 31
We will be inviting our students to a Halloween Dance on October 31, which will be scheduled during school hours in the afternoon. Costumes are encouraged and alternate activities will be offered to those not wishing to participate. More details to come.
Hot Lunch Offerings – Week of Oct. 23
We have Edo, Spolumbos, Swiss Chalet and Edo on tap for next week’s hot lunches. Feel free to order at Healthy Hunger.
Lost-Not-Found is Exploding? Is your child missing a hoodie? Odds are it’s in our Lost-Not-Found. Please send your kiddo down to take a look. At Lakeshore, our staff fold, organize and display all items for students to see and reclaim easily. At the end of each month, all unclaimed items are donated. Lakeshore apparel which ends up in the Lost-Not-Found is retained in the office for three months before being donated.
Social Media / Cell Phone Check-Ins
We are asking parents to frequently check-in on your child’s social media activity. This includes what’s being regularly used and how, but also includes understanding which other apps they are using, which email addresses they are registering their accounts with, what/who they are following and what/who is following their accounts. Online safety remains and important reality of parenting in the digital age, and it’s good to incorporate regular routines with your teen.
That’s all the news for this week. Have a great week everyone!
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
