Update to Parents - Week of October 2, 2023

Hello Lakeshore Families,

Welcome to October! We are thankful to everyone for supporting our efforts in regard to Truth and Reconciliation. This week, our focus is on our Terry Fox Run, which will take place on Friday. Here are your updates for the week:

Terry Fox Run

We are very excited for our school’s first ever Terry Fox Run – and we are planning to make it a true community event. We have planned out a 5.5 KM full-supervised route and students will be able to run or walk. Our goal is to raise $3000 (just about $100 more than we raised last year) as a school, and we have many incentives to encourage donations:

·      At $900, Ms. Richards will wear a silly hat of student choice for the whole day

·      At $1500, Ms. Ruzycki will take a pie to the face

·      At $1750, Ms. Parent and Ms. Vandertoorn will host a lunch date with a special student

·      At $2000, Ms. Charney will teach in a dinosaur costume for a day

·      At $2500, Mr. Polsky and Mr. Lansdown will let students pick their outfit for the day

·      At $2750, members of the Grade 6 team will dye their hair

·      At $3000, Mr. Clowes will shave his head and Mr. Fero will allow a lucky student to be “Principal for the Day”

I think it’s fair to say that your child will be very eager to help us reach our milestones. Cash donations can be brought to the PE team during class, and online donations are encouraged at https://schools.terryfox.ca/30991. Please help us meet our goal and support the Terry Fox Foundation in the process.

Lockdown Practice – Monday Afternoon

Lakeshore will participate in our first Lockdown practice on Monday afternoon. These are a twice-annual requirement for schools, and these are done in consult with attending Calgary Police officers. Teachers will review safety protocols with students prior to the announced lockdown.

Grade 9 Ottawa Trip Meeting

An informational meeting will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 PM at the school for all Grade 9 students interested in attending the Ottawa trip scheduled for April 10-13, 2024. This is a mandatory meeting for parents and students are also encouraged to attend.

Individual Program Plans

Parents of students in IPPs, the current year document will be available to you during the week of October 16 (or sooner). If you require anything before then, please connect with your child’s homeroom teacher.
