Mark your calendars for the evening of September 21 for our Meet-the-Teacher Open House. The event will take place from 4:30 – 6:30 PM and families are welcome to come by for a visit with staff and a look into our teaching spaces. Sport Court is OPEN!
Thanks to the efforts of our Fundraising Association Playground Committee, our Sport Court is now open for student and community use. The multi-purpose court features several basketball hoops and can also be used for pickleball, street hockey, roller hockey, and volleyball. Feel free to visit with your family and thank you in advance for helping to look after the court.

School Council / Fundraising Association Corner
· Our first School Council / Fundraising Association will take place on Wednesday, September 20. Meetings are held in-person at the school on the third Wednesday of each month starting at 6:00 PM. All Lakeshore parents are invited to attend.
· The Fundraising Association is looking for volunteers to assist in their Bingo fundraisers at the smoke-free venue. You do not require a CBE volunteer clearance to help, and any friends or family (18+) can join in. Please visit the sign-up HERE.
· Enter our Association’s Back to the Den 50/50 Draw. Draw date will be September 21.
Athletics
Final reminder regarding athletic tryout forms. Approximately 440 forms have been processed by the PE team. These forms are required to be submitted before any student is able to attend tryouts. Only one form needs to be completed for the year. The form does not mean a student has to try out for a team but that they have permission to if they choose. Form is available HERE, or in hard copy from the main office or PE office
Lakeshore would like to extend a huge thank you to our parent community for the out-pouring of support and offers to be a volunteer coach of a basketball team. Thanks to these parents, Lakeshore will run a full complement of teams. We have some very talented parents at Lakeshore and it looks like this is going to be another amazing season.
Cross-Country:
The first cross country meet is this Wednesday, September 13 at Stanley Park. Arrive early if possible as parking is limited. Due to the tight turnaround of the cross-country season, we are asking parents to pay the cross-country team fee ($20) to the office by cash or cheque (made out to Lakeshore School) as soon as possible. The receipt will be available in PowerSchool in a few weeks.
All athletes competing must wear a Lakeshore shirt. There is an option to purchase a cross country t-shirt (black with a blue Lakeshore bear logo) for an additional $12. This can also be paid at the office, and t-shirts will be handed out Tuesday or Wednesday. Please e-mail Kristi Barva at kjbarva@cbe.ab.ca with any questions. We want all interested students to compete and be a part of our team.
Soccer:
We had a fantastic turn out for both the girls and boys soccer teams. Both teams made their first round of cuts but will need a final tryout on Tuesday Sept 12, 3- 4:15pm, to make the final team roster. Please stay posted for the date of our first home games.
Basketball:
Basketball tryouts begin this week. The first tryout for each team is as follows:
Senior girls: Monday Sept 11 @ 7:15am
Senior boys: Monday Sept 11, 3:00- 4:30pm
Junior girls: Wednesday Sept 13, 3:00- 4:30pm
Junior boys: due to the projected interested in this team, tryouts have been split by age group:
· Grade 6 boys only: Tuesday Sept 12, 3:00- 4:30pm (aux gym/ sport court)
· Grade 7-8 boys: Wednesday Sept 13 @ 7:15am
The full tryout schedule is posted on Instagram @lakeshoreathletics.
String Club
Mr. Auburn will be offering a Strings Club (violin, viola, cello, double bass) for all interested students. This will be an after-school club. Mr. Auburn is a talented music teacher in all areas, but strings are a passion area for him. This is a great opportunity for your child to receive excellent, top-notch instruction for the cost of an instrument rental. If your child may be interested in Strings Club, please email Mr. Auburn at pmauburn@cbe.ab.ca for more details.
Finally, thanks to all families for their patience as Lakeshore and the CBE battled Wi-Fi access issues on Thursday and Friday. This outage impacted email and phone contact at our school. Thankfully, student operations carried on as normal, but we understand this may have caused some issues for parents. We are fully operational again.
Have a wonderful week, and thanks for sending great kids to Lakeshore.
Kind Regards,
Ian Fero,
Principal
