Hello Lakeshore Families,

Everyone is grooving at Lakeshore, and our students have the feel for the flow of our days. We have a big week ahead as we prepare for our Meet-the-Teacher evening and our first School Council meeting of the year. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:

Apparel Store Closing Tomorrow
Our fall online store will close tomorrow. Avoid disappointment and get your orders in today. The store can be accessed online HERE.

Meet the Teacher Night - Thursday
On Thursday, our staff will welcome families for our Meet-the-Teacher event. The format will be Open House style from 4:00 – 6:30 PM. Core teachers will visit with parents in dyads and our Student Services, PE, and Complementary Course teachers will also be free for you to meet. Our School Council has also invited local Food Trucks to be on site, so plan for an extended visit. See you then!

School Council Meeting – Wednesday
Our first School Council meeting will take place on Wednesday at the school starting at 6:00 PM. We encourage all Lakeshore parents to join and we hope to see both new and familiar faces at the meeting.

Demographic / School Forms Now Due
All parents are asked to complete annual forms in their MyCBE account. If you open your account, you should see a “Forms Due” section which should guide you through the items which require completion.

Parent Supported Routines – Thank you!
I would like to thank our parents for supporting our Lakeshore students in establishing good routines to start the year. Attendance, including absences and late arrivals, has been excellent. I also appreciate the parents who are executing smooth drop-and-go mornings which helps keep traffic moving along smoothly. Let's keep it up!

Terry Fox Run – Thursday, September 24
Our annual Terry Fox Run will take place on the afternoon of Thursday, September 24. Our students will once again be running / walking our circular community route through Auburn Bay. We are looking to meet our target fundraising goal of $4500 with lots of teacher incentives to encourage donation. Online donations can be made HERE, and cash donations (including Toonies for Terry) will be taken on Run Day.

Bears Athletics
Cross-Country
Last Thursday, our cross-country team had their first race of the season. Lakeshore had a strong representation with lots of runners, especially from the grade 6-7 age groups. The second race of the season is this Tuesday, Sept 15 at North Glenmore Park. The race will follow the same schedule and format as the first one. The grade 6 girls will start the event at 5:00pm and runners should arrive at about 4:30pm to walk the course and warm up before the race. It is not to late to join this no cut, no cost team. Please get a form from Ms. Barva if you are available to run next Monday Sept 21, especially if you are a grade 8-9 student. 

Soccer
Our girls and boys soccer teams have their first games of the season this week at home against Dr. George Stanley. The girls will play Tuesday, Sept 15 and the boys will play Wednesday, Sept 16. Kick off for both games is 4:30pm. At Lakeshore we play our games on the back field towards Prince of Peace, along Auburn Bay Ave. We encourage our students and families to attend our home games to cheer on our teams in a respectful manner. Soccer players were given information packages last week which need to be returned to the coaches by the first game. 

Basketball
Congratulations to the students named to the Senior girls and boys basketball teams. Your regular practice schedule starts this week. Tryouts for the junior teams continue this week: 

·      Junior Boys: Monday: 7:00am and Potentially Wednesday: 2:40- 4:15pm

·      Junior girls: Tuesday: 2:40- 4:15pm and Thursday: 7:00am

Prospects basketball will also continue meeting this week with Boys on Tuesday during the lunch hour, Girls Thursday during the lunch hour and both groups Friday morning at 7:00am. Grade 7 players that were not successful Junior team candidates are still welcome to join Prospects basketball this week. 

Orange Shirt Day – September 29
In recognition of Orange Shirt Day and September 30 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, students are encouraged to wear orange on September 29.

Hot Lunch Options
Selections for the week of September 21 include Mr. Pretzels, Subway, Opa, and Waffles n Chix. Place your orders HERE. Pizza-on-Demand with no pre-order continues each Wednesday.
