Hello Lakeshore Families,
Thank you to everyone who came to visit with us for our Meet-the-Teacher event. The feedback about our staff and school was incredible and we all appreciate the kindness and support we receive from you. Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:
No Classes on Friday
Friday, September 25 is a Calgary Board of Education system-wide professional day and there are no classes for students.
Terry Fox Run – Thursday
Our annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Thursday afternoon, and we are aiming to top our Lakeshore goal of $4500 raised with lots of teacher incentives to shoot for. Cash donations will be accepted on Thursday, but parents are encouraged to donate online which you can do HERE. Please consider a donation and help your child keep in mind who they’re running for. Expect our students out and about in the Auburn Bay community on Thursday afternoon.
Important – Demographic Form Update
Parents are required to update demographic information annually. This is now past due. Please log into your MyCBE account and navigate the Forms Due section. All email, phone, and address information needs to be correct, and students should all have emergency contacts listed. Over 20% of Lakeshore families have not completed this task – thank you to those families who have done their forms.
Bring Your Own Device
Students are always encouraged to bring laptops / Chromebooks for daily use. Students on Individual Program Plans who benefit from access to technology should strongly consider this option to ensure access as needed. Students using their own technology will follow Lakeshore and CBE expectations for use. We also ask that parents review safe-keeping plans with their children as they are responsible for their own devices while at school. Note, phones are not considered acceptable daily use devices.
Bears Athletics
Cross-Country
The final meet is tomorrow! This is the one that counts for points and determines our placement. We need ALL runners in attendance. All the other races were practice for this one. Lakeshore provides a bus to the meet. If you would like your athlete to ride on the bus, please let Ms. Barva know by emailing her at kjbarva@cbe.ab.ca. Parents still must pick up their student at North Glenmore park. Go Bears! The Cross-Country team photo will also be taken last period Monday. This photo is used in the yearbook.
Soccer
The girls soccer team won their first game of the season, making them 1-0. The boys tied vs. Dr. George Stanley. Good Luck to our soccer teams as the play away games this week.
Basketball
Senior and Junior basketball teams have now been selected, and form packages should be sent home this week. Teams will start following regular practice schedules. If players cannot attend practice it needs to be communicated to the coaches.
Prospects Basketball
Just a reminder this is a grade 6 & 7 team. Grade 7 players cut from junior teams are still able to join this team. As Prospects has a final tournament at the end of the season, a forms and information package will be sent out the week of September 28th. This is a team and to participate regular attendance is required.
Parents and Caregiver Learning Series
Raising Tweens and Teens isn’t easy. The Calgary Board of Education has partnered with Recovery Alberta and Community Education Service to provide FREE online sessions offered on evening and weekends to families who may be looking for additional resources and support. Review sessions and register HERE. Sessions include:

· School Avoidance: Moving towards reducing distress and improving attendance
· Raising Healthy Humans in a Digital World: Conversations about technology, mental health, and growing up online

· School Avoidance and Sleep Hygiene: Working towards improving attendance and communication with your child
