Hello Lakeshore Families,

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped to make our annual Terry Fox Run a huge success for our school and the Terry Fox Foundation. Together, we raised over $5000 (a new record for Lakeshore) which is indicative for our community’s respect for Terry’s legacy. There were many heartfelt messages from students and parents dedicating their run and donations to loved ones.

Here are the updates you need for the week ahead:

Photo Day – Thursday
Our Fall Photo Day will be on Thursday, October 1. All students will have photos taken. Students will need to have their school ID photo with no hat.

Orange Shirt Day – Tuesday
Lakeshore students are encouraged to wear orange on Tuesday as we recognize Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - No School Wednesday
There are no classes for students on Wednesday as September 30 is a Calgary Board of Education recognized holiday in support of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Resources
Families are encouraged to review Lakeshore’s TRC Commitment. The Calgary Board of Education has also highlighted Community Events in Moh’kins’tsis (Calgary).

Bears Athletics
Athletics Apparel
An athletics store has opened with gear specific to all our fall sports teams. If your child participated in Cross Country, Soccer or basketball they are welcome to purchase some team gear to commemorate their season – Athletics Store.

Cross Country
The Cross-Country season is officially over. This year we had the largest team in Lakeshore history with over 150 kids participating in at least one race. While we are still waiting for official results (and we are anticipating several championships), we are very proud of all our Bears and the effort they showed. A reminder the results are based on the scores of our top 5 runners in each age & gender category. The team celebration will be the week of October 5; the exact date is TBD. 

Soccer
Both girls and boys soccer team won last week. Action continues this week with home games: Boys: Monday Sept 28th, 4:30pm, Girls: Thursday Oct 1, 4:30pm. Respectful spectators are always welcome to come cheer our teams on. A reminder that players or parents need to give coaches advance notice if missing games or practices. 

Basketball
Team information packages are coming home this week. Games start the week of October 5th. 

Prospects Basketball
final team lists will be created for these teams this week. The final team will be decided based on regular attendance at practice. Many students are forgetting the lunch practice sessions, especially in grade 7. A reminder: Boys: Tuesday @ lunch and Friday morning, Girls: Thursday @ lunch and Friday morning

Off-Campus Lunch Expectations
We offer supervised on-campus lunch seating and social areas for students however, students in Grade 7-9 are permitted off-campus at lunchtime. If students do leave campus, they are required to follow simple, respectful expectations:

·      If students are accessing commercial businesses in the Co-op Plaza, they must use the pathway between Lakeshore and Prince of Peace School and avoid cutting through the community.

·      Students who are going home for lunch should have routines in place with families, including friend invitations. Students going to their own homes should go via the most direct route.

·      Lakeshore students are asked to stay on the Auburn Bay side of 52^nd St. The Mahogany Plaza (McDonald’s, Dollarama, Sobeys, etc.) is considered off limits for Lakeshore students at lunch.

·      Students are expected to treat all commercial businesses respectfully, including cleaning up after themselves. If they are not going to be purchasing items from the business, they are asked to wait outside.

·      Students must dispose of trash in bins along the route or at the school.

·      Students using bikes and scooters (manual and electric) must act safely and respectfully – wear helmets, control speed, and no doubling.

·      Students who are not following off-campus lunch expectations are subject to Progressive Discipline at the school.
